Matt, thanks.
Voted stand pat—–Unless we can or do move AJ or? Then an upgrade without an overpay in prospects, or of course either 1. kuroda 2. Oswalt
uyf – No problem.
John – I as well voted for stand pat. I feel our offense will be more explosive this season so I think that will help carry some of the lack luster in pitching we have.
As time has gone on and I have drank from the “Acceptance Bottle’, I would definitely stand pat and go with the group we have now. I want to see our young guys pitch for the Yankees not some other team. OK, so we aren’t spending a lot of dinero this off-season and I am fine with that especially if it gives us a younger team in the future and we can build a new “core four” and win championships. I guess there is a method to this madness!
Ramondo couldn’t agree more with your words. If we roll with what have this year and that saves the “farm” I am all for it.
Thanks for dropping by. looking forward to hearing more of your views soon.
I have to say I voted for “prying Matt Cain away from the Giants”. For a couple of reasons:
1) There is no guarantee that either Hamels or Cain will be available by the end of the 2012 season. Either via an extension by the Giants or some other team jumping in and overwhelming the Giants with an offer.
2) Cain will just be 28 in Oct. 2012 that means on say a a 5 or 6 year deal whichever team he pitches for will have him in his prime effectively.
3) The chances of of either Banuelos or Betances ever becoming a “Matt Cain” are slim.
4) A top of the rotation starting in 2012 of: CC and Cain over the next 5 years is a lot more exciting and in my opinion has a lot more potential to bring “home the bacon” than any combination of: CC and any of the possible #2(s) either currently on the staff or Yankees prospects.
I like the prospects the Yankees have but history tells us that most prospects NEVER fulfill teams or fans expectations. And that’s especially true of Yankees pitching prospects. And if the Yankees have a chance to acquire a proven pitcher like Cain who on most on the MLB teams would be a legit ace a #1 they have to jump on it. That’s just my opinion.
1) correct no guarantee with that so it is a good idea. but you are banking on the giants are going to tank. They will have Posey back at full strength. I think they have a good shot to make the playoffs.
3) Agreed prospects that pan out are slim but usually the majority of the every day players were prospects themselves so their is a chance.
4) I know we used just cain in the poll but a top rotation of CC and Cain or CC and Hamels will both impress me.
Matt, yes we did just use Cain. I would rather have Hamels but Cain would be a close 2nd.
The other reason I suggested Cain was that I don’t think there is a snowballs chance in hell of the Phillies falling out of contention early. Whereas I do think the Giants stand a better chance of it happening to them.
Prospects are all a crap shoot, some stand a better chance then others, but it’s still a crap shoot. That’s why I’d choose the “bird in the hand” rather than the “2 in the bush”.
Unfortunately, Cashman has shown almost a complete lack of willingness to pay for a player twice. Once in prospects and once in salary. So if Cain OR Hamels are going to happen for the Yankees it’s probably going to have to wait until they become FA’s.
agreed and if those two are smart the will wait it out to become Free Agents and get a bigger pay day.
