Arbitration – Joba, Robertson, Gardner, Martin, Logan
by Matt S.
This will be the tread of the arbitration announcements that come out today.
* The Yankees and RHP David Robertson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.6 million contract.
* The Yankees avoided arbitration with RHP Joba Chamberlain by agreeing to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $1.675 million.
* Brett Gardner filed for arbitration at $3.2 million. The Yankees offered Gardner $2.4 million.
* Russell Martin filed for arbitration at $8.2 million. The Yankees offered Martin $7 million.
* Boone Logan filed for arbitration at $2.1 million. The Yankees offered Logan $1.7 million.

UYF or anyone else how do you feel about these…..
Adam Jones requested $7.4 million and was offered $5 million by the Orioles
Jeremy Guthrie requested $10.25 million and was offered $7.25 million from the Orioles
Mike Morse requested $5 million and was offered $3.5 million from the Nationals
Mike Napoli requested $11.5 million and was offered $8.3 million by the Rangers
Matt Garza requested $10.225 million and was offered $7.95 million from the Cubs
I feel the same way about Jones and Guthrie as I do about what Martin is asking for from the Yankees. They should take their teams offer and be thankful.
Morse probably sees all the money the Nationals have been throwing around lately and wants his piece of the pie.
Napoli deserves a raise and is probably one of the very top catchers in the league but that’s still a huge raise. Considering up to this year he was nothing special. I think they will settle somewhere in the middle.
Garza, apparently believes all the hype people have been saying about him lately or at least all the hype Epstein has been throwing his way. Calling him a #1. Again he’s a guy asking for a 100% raise. I do think in his case the Cubs low balled him a bit. I would think he’ll get about $9MM if they settle if not wouldn’t surprise me if the arbitrator awards him his request.
I figured those 5 of the many today would get a good reaction from you and it did. I just wanted to show others it’s not only the Yankees who at times ask for a ridiculous amounts of money.
My friend, you could have included Pence in your list as well.
To me Pence is worth anything. I really love watching him play. His stats last year were .314/.370/.502 with 22 homers, 97 RBI, eight stolen bases and an .871 OPS. most of that was on the crappy Astros. Those numbers are going to go up being on the Phillies.
