  1. Yes! The Red Sox could actually be doing something today! Yes! Eeek. Forgot I was on a Yankees forum. Ahem. Trying to contain the excitement…

  2. You know the way this Chaves thing seems to be dragging on. I’m of the opinion the Yankees should just move on.

  3. also we have this section in resources not sure if many know about it. It’s called “Other Links” It features blogs we are working with with our interviews (every other AL Team). We will be using them during the season as well for a feel of their teams.

Here is that link check out those sites.

  4. Some random news and notes:

Josh Johnson reported feeling “good” after throwing off a mound Tuesday for the first time since September.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed Wednesday that he’s viewing Matt Thornton as his closer.

5.’s Alden Gonzalez reports that the Angels have made an offer to reliever Luis Ayala.

  6. now i read pitchers and catchers report Feb 19th now. a little farther off than first reported but still not that far away.

  7. Gentlemen, for anyone that’s interested. I have the Yankees 2012 Payroll “FOR LUXURY TAX THRESHOLD PURPOSES” at $201MM +/-. Now we need to add to that number about $11MM to take into consideration the balance of the 40 man roster and well as all benefits, etc… So that takes the Yankees 2012 Payroll for LTT purpose to $212MM +/-. That’s all players under contract, arbitration eligible estimates and pre arb estimates.

There are in all likelihood only 2 minor signings that will be added to that number. So it’s my BEST estimate that the Yankees 2012 Payroll for Luxury Tax purposes will come in nearly identical to what it was for 2011. Not bad considering the improvements to the pitching staff alone.

  8. Matt, looks like you need to update your 40 man roster again.

Yankees Designate Kevin Whelan For Assignment
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 26 at 1:19pm CST]
The Yankees designated Kevin Whelan for assignment to create 40-man roster space for Hiroki Kuroda, Jon Heyman of tweets.

    • Thanks – I’ll be updating the 40 man roster and Contracts/Salaries page within the hour.

      • Mike, you’re welcome. Don’t know if your interested but I’d be happy to email you the spread sheet I’ve been keeping on the Yankees, etc.. for you just to have.

But I won’t feel bad if you say no. I do it for my own reference. Let me know here if you would like it.

  9. Mike, it’s on it’s way to both you and Matt. Hopefully you find it useful.

  10. Well it would appear the last of the Yankees arbitration cases has been settled.

LHP Boone Logan and Yankees agree at $1,875,000

  11. Can I ask your thoughts on a topic unrelated to the Yankees?

How bad do you guys think it is to be a Mets fan now?

    • I’m in the minority with most Yankee fans I don’t cheer against the Mets. I never saw the point if they do well it’s great for the New York Metro area for things such as bars and other things.

I never saw the point of hating the Mets since I am a Yankee fan.

to answer your question I have a couple friends that are Mets fans and they all agree the best thing for the team would be for MLB to step in and force a sale of the team.

    • Like Matt, I don’t hate the Mets either. I used to hate them because when I grew up in the 80s, the Mets ruled NY and the Yanks sucked. I had to put up with front-running, bandwagon Mets fans talking smack. But those days are over and I root for the Mets a little.

Bud Selig needs to STOP bailing out his friend Fred Wilpon! The Mets play in the same market as the Yanks so there is NO excuse for them to be as broke as they are. MLB had to loan them money on multiple occassions to stay afloat and now the Wilpons are selling minority shares to raise money. All this is doing is prolonging the agony.Let them be sold and start the turnaround.

There are TONS of rich investor groups that are dying to buy a baseball team. Look at what happened in Texas….bankrupt 2-3 yrs ago to one of the best organizations in MLB now flush with money. The Dodgers will be the next team to go from broke to the World Series. McCourt bought that team for $430 Million in 2004 and without doing anything significant to the product is about to flip the team for over $1 BILLION in profit as they are talking around $1.6 Billion to buy them and there are dozens of groups fighting to lay out the cash.
