UYF/Matt – the Pinstripe Alley article linked above deals with what we were discussing yesterday, ARods HOUR potential.
The author uses historical data and compares ARod to last yrs 30-HR hitters. Its interesting but I wish he would have looked at Alex’ first 66 games last year before he hurt the knee. I feel that is the ARod we should expect to get IF healthy.
30 hrs or not I want to see him close to .300/.380/.525 and healthy at the end of the year. Will it happen? I think the odds are against him with the amount of injuries he’s suffered the last 4-5 yrs. The hip injury especially is no joke. Also, even when relatively healthy, he does not have the same lower body strength he once did which made him capable of driving those HRs to CF and RCF. In addition he’s lacked the flexibility to succesfully rotate the hips to turn on the inside pitch which is why you see pitchers continually bust him in with hard stuff.
Fishjam – I think it is critical that A-Rod get some days off and some days just DH’ing. Obviously we are all just guessing, hoping or doing whatever when it comes to A-Rod. But if he gives the Yankees 525+ PA (about 115 to 120 games playing 3rd base and about 20 games DH’ing) and about 20 games off completely I think he and the Yankees will do just fine. And he should be amply rested for Sept. and Oct. like that. We’ll see.
Fishjam – I think the great unkown here. Is how that treatment he got in Germany is going to work. If it works as A-Rod and I’m sure the Yankees hope A-Rod might just surprise some of his critics.
hopefully that thing he got in Germany works miracles.
