Yankees & Chavez Agree On 1 Year Deal
Well it looks like when Joe Girardi made that slip up earlier today during an interview, it turned out to be what we all thought; an Eric Chavez signing. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports the Yankees & Eric Chavez agreed on a 1 year, $900,000 deal. The deal is major league and is pending a physical.

David Robertson signing autographs
Day 3 of Spring Training has come and gone and the highlight of the day was David Robertson signing autographs for little kids! Okay, there was other news that happened today but David Robertson giving autographs to kids? That’s adorable! Okay, onto the other news of the day.
– Speaking of David Robertson, he had a lot to say about the Mariano Rivera situation. He spoke to Jack Curry this morning but doesn’t think that Mariano will leave just like that. “I’ll believe it when I see it. When you talk about replacing Mariano Rivera, I don’t think that can be done. Like I said, I’ll believe it when I see it. You never know. He could Brett Farve us.”
– Raul Ibanez has officially joined the Yankees on a 1 year, $1.1 Million contract. He will wear the number Joe Girardi wore in 2009; #27.
– Andruw Jones showed up to camp today and took batting practice. Nice to see him show up.
– The Yankees did suffer a downfall today when George Kontos was the first Yankee to suffer an injury; an oblique strain. Girardi mentioned that he will be out for a couple of weeks.
– The Yankees are preparing for the return of Eric Chavez just in case he re-signs and just in case they left a locker empty next to Nick Swisher.
– Kevin Long mentioned that Raul Ibanez is a perfect fit for the Yankees lineup.
On November 13, 2008 Brian Cashman made one of his finer trades as the Yankees GM. He traded Wilson Betemit and minor league pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez to the White Sox in exchange for Nick Swisher. Swisher had the worst season of his career in Chicago batting .219, with 24 HR’s 69 RBI, and a .743 OPS. Swisher clashed with White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen who played Swisher out of position by playing him in center field. He also had him out of position in the lineup by having him lead off in 29 games. Swisher has revitalized his career with the Yankees, but some are questioning whether his postseason struggles will leave him looking for a new team in 2013.
Swisher has been a really solid player for the Yankees for the last 3 years. He has provided the team with great energy, has hit for good power, and has gotten on base a lot. He is a fan favorite among many and I think upper management has a real affinity for him as well. I have sat in right field for some games and he is quite entertaining out there. It is hard not to love him. However, the big issue with him has pretty much been an automatic out in the postseason. He has hit .169 in his career in the postseason with 4 HR’s, 6 RBI, and .617 OPS. Whether to give up on a guy who produces in the regular season but not in the post season is always a hot button issue with fans and is a really tough issue. Read the rest of this entry
