Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Yankees “are maintaining their interest” in Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
Rogers says the Yanks are among those that feel Soler has more upside than fellow Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. Soler, 19, is much younger and isn’t close to big-league ready, but he should also come quite a bit cheaper. uyf, good find, I was wondering what was going on with Soler. If the Yanks can sign him it would upgrade their prospects in the OF.
For what it’s worth. Tomorrow March 1st is the deadline for MLB and the Players Union to agree on the “extra” team playoff format for the 2012 season.
Is March 1st are hard and fast deadline? We shall see.

It will be interesting to see if when the “real” season starts if they can crack the 90% capacity at the new stadium.
In 2009 it was: 86.7%
In 2010 it was: 88.9%
In 2011 it was: 89.7%
In 2012 what will it be: ???
See if a few more fans turn out to see Pineda and Kuroda. Also, it’s quite possible that come towards the end of the season A-Rod will have a shot at tying or passing Willie Mays 660 HR’s. He only needs 31. If he does that bodes well for the Yankees. It probably means he’s been relatively healthy during the season and been pretty productive.
A-Rod , Cano, and Grandy have proven they can carry a team, hopefully all three will have good years this year.
The Yankees should go full throttle in promoting every time Jeter gets close to passing each player on the all time hit list. I think that will help sell seats.
If you remember last year to start the season for about the 1st month the weather was pretty miserable. I’m sure that effected attendance last year. Let’s hope it’s better this year.
The weather could be a godsent for the pitchers also. It’s looks like the mild weather will help all the players this year.

Philly also beat the Yankees in total home attendance last year.
Matt, percentages can be a little misleading when you compare them to Philadelphia. Look at the averages per season:
2009: Yankees: 45,364 // Philadelphia: 44,453
2010: Yankees: 46,491 // Philadelphia; 45,027
2011: Yankees: 45,107 // Philadelphia: 45,440
The reason why Philadelphia percentages are higher is obviously less capacity higher percentage. Also, the Yankees played 5 more home games in April than the Phillies 18 versus 13.
Yeah but in no way should the Yankees be not leading this including total home last year.
I know it’s less capacity. But the tradition of the Yankees plus the biggest city in the U.S. should make the Yankees crush everyone in these categories.
The prices for the friggin moat seats is what hurts capacity.
