Kuroda, Hughes get work in as Yankees sweep Marlins 5-2

The Yankees were able to get one final look of the Marlins ballpark before they head out after the game and in the midst of that, they were able to sweep the 2 game series 5-2 vs. Carlos Zambrano and the Marlins.

Hiroki Kuroda pitched in his final Spring Training start and although he wasn’t as sharp as he usually was, he battled with the stuff he had only giving up 1 run on 3 hits. Boone Logan came in the game and only pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, Rafael Soriano got the final out for Logan, having another good outing, Phil Hughes came in for his final appearance in Spring Training and did not disappoint, giving up no runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeout and David Robertson closed the game for the Yankees with a perfect inning to secure the Yankees win.

THE GOOD: Yankees offense was once again potent in this game vs. Miami and the Yankees are going to need the good vibes to enter the season. Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher all had 1 hit apiece and made their hits count. Curtis Granderson, Brett Gardner & Robinson Cano all worked 2 walks apiece and did what Joe Girardi asked them to do; get on base.

THE BAD: Nick Swisher had an error during the game (it was pretty clumsy), Russell Martin was 0 for 2 and Raul Ibanez was 0 for 4. When you think a guy is heating up, he has a game with no hits. Boone Logan was slated to come in and face a lefty. He gave up a hit to a lefty. That’s all I have to say.

WHAT’S NEXT: Most of the Yankees are going to fly out after the game back to Tampa to prepare for Wednesday’s final Spring Training game of the season. Brett Gardner, Nick Swisher, Andruw Jones & Ivan Nova will make the trip to visit the Mets in St. Lucie for their final road trip of the season. Start time is at 2:10pm.

  1. oh Swisher i will be filled with joy when you are in a different uniform next year.

  2. LOL! Matt when he and his postseason zombie twin Teixeira come to the plate in the postseason, you are going to have to put a censor on my posts and articles.
