Morning Bits: Sabathia, Girardi, Pineda, Pettitte

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday! Yankees will try to get their first win of the season in Game 2 tonight. Hiroki Kuroda will get the start against lefty David Price. Here are your morning links!

– CC Sabathia felt that Joe Girardi made the right call when he walked Sean Rodriguez to face Carlos Pena. Eh…looking at the final score, I’m not too sure about that.

– Yankees won’t get Michael Pineda back until May. Funny, Yankees won’t get Andy Pettitte until May either. Uh oh…

– Speaking of Andy Petttitte, he is slated to start on Monday in an extended Spring Training game.

  1. good articles Delia. Good point with Pettitte and Pineda probably gonna be ready at the same time. This stuff always works itself out though with an injury or someone not pitching well. We shall see.

    • I know Matt but I hate this DAMN short leash every start is a referendum nonsense thats been looming the last few years. You are basically sending Hughes, Nova, and Garcia out there each game with the added pressure of feeling like they have to not only win, but impress.
This just isn’t any way to run a team, NOONE else does this. I don’t want to hear that because its New York this is acceptable with the pressure they have on them to win. Boston doesn’t have insane pressure on them to win? Philly?
Petitte is a legend so he’s getting a spot, I understand that. Hopefully it’s Garcia that gets sent to the pen or traded. Pineda though, he is responsible for his own situation with the shape he came to camp in. He shouldn’t just be allowed to waltz into a spot when he’s ready if everyone is pitching well.
Maybe some time riding the bus all over the place for the Empire State team to such hotspots as Binghamton, Buffalo, and Syracuse would get him to take the shape he’s in seriously.
I said it in my article about him at the end of February, it’s a HUGE red flag about someone’s character when they get traded to the Yankees and then show up at camp weighing close to 300 pounds.

  2. This has nothing to do with Game 1 and I know the Yankees are gonna get their runs but I’m a little uneasy with their lineup construction. I really hope someone in the Tex, Swish, Ibanez, Martin group can raise their BA vs RHP as that could become a black hole vs RHP.

    5- Tex .223
    6- Swish .232
    7- Ibanez .256
    8- Martin .248

They’ll get their share of HRs but I hate being so HR – reliant.

  3. what would you propose fish?

    • Not much they can do now. It was something they could have addressed in the offseason but chose not to. Just have to hope the 4 guys above can improve and I think the key for all 4 of those hitters is using the whole field. They’ve all hit for better average vs RHP during their career.

  4. also every time Tex hits a lazy fly ball in the air the Yankees should donate to a charity. That charity would then be rich.

    • I think Tex should have to donate the dollars! He’s making 22.5 million dollars a year for the next 5 years to hit those lazy fly balls.
I really hope he can turn things around or by the time he’s 3-4 more years into his contract his name will be spoken like a four letter word.

  5. looks like Wright is off to a great start so far. Maybe hoping he has a good season and gets traded.
