i know it’s early to think but I hope Sanchez is the catcher of the future for the Yankees. I also hope they draft a SS this year. Cito Culver doesn’t look to be cutting it.
Culver is not yet 20 years old. He can play SS defensively at the MLB level which is something most can not. He is also a switch hitter and they take longer to develop offensively having to do everything twice.
all good points George. thanks for sucking me back to reality.
The way the Yankees are playing, you might as well bring up Sanchez and let him take over for Martin. That was me wishing he was ready of course. I really believe the Yankees are in trouble!
Sanchez is hitting the ball very well this season but his defense is still iffy. By most accounts he has been better defensively. His Passed Balls are down but he’s made a lot of throwing errors – already 8 total errors in 25 games caught.
If the Yankees didn’t think Montero could be a part-time Catcher at the MLB level, will they feel the same about Sanchez? From what I’ve seen, Montero has looked perfectly adequate. Jorge Posada, Mike Napoli & Victor Martinez were/are never good defensively but the huge edge they give/gave their teams offensively make them valuable.
I really hope if they don’t like Sanchez’ defense they move him to 1B or OF. He’s more athletic than Montero so I think he could handle a position switch.
