Nova K’s 12 but Yanks fall short in 6-5 loss to Reds
If you didn’t watch today’s Yankees game, you might want to find a way to watch it again. Yes, the Yankees didn’t win, but today’s game was one of the oddest game of the year. Why I mention that? Ivan Nova gave up 5 runs, but still managed to strike out 12 of the Reds hitters.
The big blow came in the 5th inning when Joey Votto hit a 3 run homer off of Nova. The Yankees tried to rally in the 9th after Raul Ibanez hit a double, Nick Swisher doubled to bring him home and Jayson Nix brought Swisher home. The game ended with the same problem that the Yankees have had all season: not being able to hit with runners in scoring position. Curtis Granderson grounded out with a runner at third base.

Matt…
I have been very judicious in my assessment of Jeter for a few weeks now but, I think it is time to face facts!
May 4th 2 for 5, HR, 2RBI, .404 BA
May 19th, 1 for 5 .355 and not one RBI after the 4th.
Jeter is still at .355 but, going down fast, what we need is for him to level out and help the team. A hit a game is fine for his quest to move up in the 3,000 hit club but, RBIs would be nice…you know, join the team.
Main fact is…Jeter is not in any way, the reason for the Yankees slump. He has had a lot of help from the rest of the team.
Jeter needs to stop his slide if he is going to stay in the lead-off spot, just as the mashers need to trim the need to try for a HR when a single is all that is needed.
Jeter is def not the reason for this slide. Lot of other things to consider of this team besides him.
Matt…
You are to quick to judge what I said…I pointedly said he was not the problem with the slide. I was saying he has had hits but NO RBIs and he droped from .404 to .355 in 15 days. We don’t need him to drop any more, if he can stay close to that but, ad some RBIs we are doing good.
NO way is Jeter the lone cause for any slide, he is one of many guys not getting it done.
Come on Matt, I am more interested in the team winning then any one players run for a record.
Ken wasn’t judging was just making a statement. I understand what you said and where you were coming from. Of course though Jeter wasn’t going to hit .400 forever so that average was gonna come down anyway.
Of course we both want to see this team win. I think though this might be hard until your boy Gardner comes back.
