Teixeira homers twice as Yanks defeat A’s 9-2
There was an all too familiar face for the Yankees as they got into the batters box to begin the game. Their old friend Bartolo Colon, who was with the Yankees last season and spending this year with the Athletics was on the mound, having to pit himself against his former team. The Yankees were able to get 6 runs off of Colon in his 6 innings as the Yankees won their fourth straight with a 9-2 victory over the A’s.
Mark Teixeira had a promising game in the Yankees and A’s opener and showed that his bat was just about ready to wake up when he went 4 for 5 with 2 homers, 5 RBI’s and 2 singles. This was Teixeira’s best game by far this season. Robinson Cano also hit a homer during the game and Derek Jeter tied George Brett for 14th place on the All-Time hit list.
There was more news on Brett Gardner coming in from Tampa today. Gardner will pick up a bat on Monday and will see if he has any issues with the elbow. If he doesn’t have any issues then Gardner could be activated by the time the Yankees come back to New York. But if Gardner does suffer another set-back then Gardner might have to wait until the All-Star Break to come back to the team.
