And now onto today’s top stories in Yankees Universe:

Joba Chamberlain pitched early this morning for the Gulf Coast Yankees and looked impressive. He went a hit-less inning giving up 1 unearned run and 2 strikeouts. This was the first time Chamberlain got into game action since having Tommy John Surgery last season. He believes he could be back to the Yankees by August 1st.

David Aardsma got the results from his tests from his doctor and according to him all is well. Aardsma is just waiting for the doctor to give him the green light on when he can throw again.

– It didn’t seem like it was a possibility but today Mariano Rivera‘s rehab doctor Dr. Pyne revealed that Mariano Rivera might be able to pitch in 2012 after all. He says that since Rivera had did some pre-rehabilitation work before the surgery, he is in an advanced recovery state where he could possibly get on a mound by the end of the year.

– Well that didn’t last long. After telling Reggie Jackson to stay away from the Yankees indefinitely, Brian Cashman is now saying that Reggie Jackson could be back with the team on Friday.

– And last but not least, Brett Gardner will most likely be back in the next 2 weeks. Cashman and Gardner both gave the target date of July 27  in which he could return to the majors. Gardner had already been shut down twice during his rehab.Maybe third times a charm?

  11. Have a good evening everyone, past my bed time, so they tell me! Bossy people! lol :)

  12. Good night Ken……you da man!

  13. Delia-Matt S. : Russell Martin has a chance to break the Yankee record for lowest BA with 450PAs in a season. .193. Who did it? HINT : 1970 3rd baseman.

  14. Hi folks:
    YANKEE FANS UNITE! INDEED!
    I can’t stand Mike Lupica.
He’s best buddies with Fred and Jeff Wilpon and a Boston College grad, main reasons he’s been trashing the Yankees for the last 20 years.
But we have a chance to get back at him with immediate gratification.
He has a radio show on ESPN (1050 am and 98.7 FM) every weekday from noon to 1 p.m. EST. You can also listen online at http://espn.go.com/espnradio/newyork/play.
And of course, he continues to bash the Yankees – always mentioning payroll, killing A-Rod, saying the Mets are the best New York team etc..blah. blah.
Let’s all call him at 1-800-919-ESPN (3776) as much as possible and get on his Yankee-hating!
He’s been flustered by some angry Yank fan calls. We can get him good! Let’s do it!
    YANKEE FANS UNITE!

  15. Doug – luckily for CashMan , Vizcaiano got hurt , he was a can’t miss top prospect that CashMan included in the deal with Melky to get a bust (Javier Vazquez) and Logan. Even coming of Tommy John surgery , having Vizcaiano and Melky is a hell of a lot better than having just Logan.

And let’s not forget CashMan also gave up Mike Dunn another good pitcher in the deal….who strikes out more than one per inning and has a career 3.6 ERA.

  16. Money P. ……when is CashMan going to be held accountable for so many bad trades? This All Star game and the way Melky is playing while Vazquez is home watching his kids…is an embarrassment!

    • Winning MVP of an all star game is value in wanting a guy? let’s see if Melky keeps up with his stats this season.

You can’t have all winners when making trades. Who do you not want in the outfield Granderson, Swisher, or Gardner and have Mekly instead?

  17. No winning an MVP is not the value. but highlighting the player you have become to a national audience …. You can bet embarrasses the Yankee org who let him get away ……proven by Longs sour grapes comments.

    • I find it hard to believe the Yankees are embarrassed they let Melky go. You can only monday morning quaterback trades for so long.

      • Everyone knows it takes years before a trade can be evaluated…. well years have passed an Javier was a bust and in a few more years it might get even worse if Dunn and Vizcaiano reach their potential.

If the Yankees weren’t embarrassed they wouldn’t be disrespecting Melky in the press ….. Drinks too much…not focused….etc…

        • That’s Long saying that. Not any of the Yankee Brass. He is just covering his ass. I agree with you it was stupid of him and not a good a move of what he said.

          • As far as the outfield …. Yes I would like to have Melky on the team and I criticized the trade when it happened…so I’m not Monday morning qbing. ( though I do reserve the right to Monday morning qb because it’s fun )

Remember Fish when we discussed this at iYankees and we both thought they gave up too much?

            • Not saying monday morning quaterbacking is wrong. That’s what really a blog like this is for. Everyone has the right to an opinion and for all of them to be shared.

Who would you have Melky replace in the current outfield T-man?

            • The outfielder I would replace for Melky would be Swisherlicious! Why?

              1. He’s terrible defensively
              2. He’s got a terrible arm.
              3. He’s stupid.
              4. He can’t hit in the postseason
              5. He no longer is a high OBP batter ..which used to be his strength…..because he’s trying to jack everything out.
              6. He embarrasses the Yankee tradition with his over the top antics.
              7. His Mohawk is ridiculous
              8 He tweets too much.
              9. No one on earth can be that happy all the time !!!

          • fishjam, Matt S…
Long told the truth but, no one is going to back him up now. Cashman (by trading him) in a way, backed him up. Melky was dropped from the majors and finally got the kick in the ass the Yankees tryed to give him. He went on a diet and worked out with a trainer etc., and came back with baseball on his mine instead of which girl he would be with that night.
Come on guys GM’s don’t trade players that will take off and work hard even though A-Rod took he and Cano under his wing…Cano stayed Milky didn’t take to the hard work outs that A-Rod put him through…maybe you guys remember that. Also, Long can only work with a hitter that wants help, one like Milky can’t be worked with, ask BallPark he will say the same.
Now that Melky is where he should have been years ago, he is the player the Yanks and fans saw every once in a while.
I also, would like to have Melky on the team as the RF’er! :)

  18. CashMan defenders always say the same line ” well you can’t have all winners” …… No shit.

But a GM has to be held accountable when one side of the ledger outweighs the other side. CashMan has had a terrible record with bringing the right pitching over here in trades. Cabrera, Dunn and Vizcaiano was too much to give up for Logan. ( Javier was a total bust). admit it Matt, or I will sink your boat… :-)

    • Twasp you still haven’t answered my question who do you want Melky to replace? Granderson, Gardner or Swisher?

    • and by no way am I a Cashman defender. I just can’t get how everyone thinks Cashman has to “win” every trade. That is just impossible.

      • Again Matt, nobody is asking CashMan to get every trade right … And I applaud him when he does well…. But when evaluating the job someone is doing you have to measure his performance, good and bad and see if one outweighs the other.

        • Twasp what I hated is this…..

Cashman Traded Pineda for Montero. I was a fan of it. Never can have to many pitchers.

Pineda gets injured and almost every person out says Cashman blew the trade and it sucks. You can’t judge a trade that quickly.

      • the last trade he won was Swisher, this is RIDICULOUS

  19. Exactly it takes years to judge a trade. Pineda may turn out to be great for the Yankees and Montero may be a Mediocre player and never reach his potential.

With the Melky deal Vazquez has already imploded and Melky has already been successful and is still young. And there is more upside possible with Dunn and Vizcaiano. So that deal is not going to turn in the Yankees favor.

  20. Yeah and not for nothing but Montero is sucking with his .657 OPS and Noesi is in the minors. Can’t predict injuries and the doctors said Pineda was clean when he came here. What I hate is waiting until after the fact to criticize people. Was anybody criticizing Cashman for Melky when the braves and royals gave up on him? Of course not. Nobody could have possibly seen this coming.

    • Right on Matthew B, in a way the Yankees say it in Melky but, got nowhere trying to get him to concentrate on his baseball skills. Finally he got the kick…now look at him, he could have been that years ago! What a waste of time and talent. He also had, a lot of fun playing the game but, he forgot it takes work to stay in the majors. :)

      • Nothing! Is! Ever! Our! Fault!
Please pass the koolaid Rev Jones

        • Michael P….
The truth is the truth no matter what you believe! If you wish to go the cool aid trip, that is up to you. But when fans throw out half-truths or incorrect statements, they should be corrected as am I, when I make a mistake.
One can’t put the blame on the Yankees for the actions or non actions of a talented player!

          • Ken ….. This is unlike you……

Your truth is no more truthful than Michael P’s truth.

            • twasp…
Question; If you were to coach a baseball team (I think you said you had) and you had an almost star player but, he didn’t think he had to practise. You tried everything to get it through to him he could be great but he says I am better than any of these guys and goes his own way. What would you do?
Bench him? No his parents would revolt.
But if you were in the majors, you say, this guy may or may not get it we have a chance to trade him or so and so…who gets traded?
By the way, Michael P has never a good word for anyone in the Yankees organization except the players. Always criticize the brass but never gives the salient points as to why! That’s ok, we all still have that right, unless there is four more years!

              • Ken – if that’s what happened with Melky then sure trade him. And based on what we know there is a good chance that is what happened. But

                1. there are two sides to every story and a lot of what we the fans know comes from Yankee mgt.
                2. Things are not always what they appear to be – some Yankee players have disputed the picture of Melky as an unfocused, selfish, lazy player.

The Real TRUTH is none of us really know what went down…….so to adamantly defend the Yankee mgt picture as truth could be perceived as Michael P. Calls it ” drinking the Koolaide”.

                • True, it could be he and you are more right than I am, I dug around to find out stuff not on the Internet and checked it against other stuff I found but, that doesn’t mean it is the real truth…! It only means I dug up what I did. If it isn’t the truth…well that’s the way it is…half the stuff is to make themselves look good anyhow. But this is one case where I came up with a lot of comments and snippets about Melky! :)

  21. Ha ha……the only ones that saw Melky’s potential to be a very good player based on comments they have just made in the press :

    1. CashMan
    2. Long

    But it’s never their fault!

    Drink the Koolaid…..
