Game 92 Lineup: Yankees @ Athletics
Lineup vs. Athletics:
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Nick Swisher RF
Raul Ibanez LF
Eric Chavez 3B
Chris Stewart C
RHP Freddy Garcia
Pregame Notes:
– The Yankees still do not have an update on Brett Gardner‘s MRI but the Yankees are going to approach the situation as if he will come back in September.
UPDATE: Gardner will have arthroscopic surgery next week which will most likely end his 2012 season.
– David Phelps was brought up from Triple-A last night while D.J Mitchell was optioned to Scranton. Phelps will have the same role Cory Wade had so he won’t just be the long man.
– Darnell McDonald was sent to Triple-A after being DFA’d on Tuesday. I guess he didn’t chop off his locks for nothing then.

For those wondering how the Yankees will get by without Gardner: He's played nine games this year and they have MLB's best record.—

How do they not have the results of the MRI yet? unreal.
Feinsand has to by one of my favorite writers and following him on twitter is great as well. He just tells it like it is.
Tough break for Gardner. Im sure you are sad Delia. Hopefully the surgery is a success and he comes back strong next year.
Now do the Yankees make a play for Victorino like Matthew B suggested the other day? Or do they stand pat with what they have?
After hearing the Gardner news…2012 has been the worst year of my life.
ahhh Delia. Chin up. The yankees are still in first. It’s always about the team first.
So I heard on the Daily News 5th that the doctors were calling Gardner’s injury a “muscle strain” a “bone bruise” but in reality the doctors had no idea what was going on. So basically we’ve been told multiple “false diagnostics”. And now they believe the only way to find out what’s really going on is by cutting him open and looking inside his elbow.
Unless they can get someone without overpaying, I think they should stand pat.
Hey Mike what do you think of bringing up Mustelier though? plays a bunch different positions and can play OF. Would be a great utility.
Yeah I’m on board with that.
Mike D and Matt S…I agree on bringing up Mustelier and standing pat until the season ends. After that we may be able to pick up a very good OF.
I must question why the Yankees have not brought him up before…big hole in his swing or something else we don’t know about?
Good luck to Brett…keep on keeping on guy!
Haven’t needed to bring him up with how Wise, Jones, and Ibanez are performing. Plus he isn’t on the 40 man I believe.
Yeah, they don’t really have a natural fit for him right now. They can’t drop Nix because he’s the only guy who can fill in at SS. Mustelier doesn’t play SS.
Andruw Jones is red-hot, Chavez is red-hot and Ibanez has had a lot of timely hits. The only guy they could drop is Wise. But Wise has played very well lately and he provides 2 aspects this team sorely needs – OF defense and speed on the bases.
At this point, the only minor league position player who could make the post-season roster is Eduardo Nunez. If he gets healthy he could be a valuable player as a pinch-runner and possible DH vs LHP. if the post-season started today and the yanks face a LHP, who is the DH? Right now that would be Laynce Nix. I like Nix as a Utility guy but I might rather have Nunez’ speed and stick in the lineup if he’s 100%.
Thats a big reason why I said they should get Victorino because Nix would be the DH vs lefties, which is not acceptable. I would be fine with bringing up Nunez to fill that role though.
In my opinion it’s time to bring up Ronnier Mustelier. Give him a shot.

best thing about West Coast games…..No Michael Kay!!!
We should run away with the division. We can win with our position players. The only trade/acquisition we should make is if there is a chance to take us over the top ….to the next level…..for the playoffs and that is an elite starting pitcher. We have the money, we have the depth, opportunity arises jump at it.
Matt – what do you not like about Kay?
Just not a fan. I’m really not a fan of most of the YES crew. I actually enjoy watching the mets games for there broadcasters.
