Morning Bits: Jeter continues to hit, Pettitte’s x-ray and more

Good morning all.  Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Yankees are now on the road and will be up against the Tigers tonight.  Game time is set for 7PM EST.  The Yankees will have Nova on the mound going against the Tigers Ace pitcher Justin Verlander.
Enjoy the day and the game.  Now onto some links….

– I posted this article in the comments sections but figured it should get featured here as well.  Andrew Marchand of ESPN NY has a nice write about Jeter and how he continues to defy age.

Ethan Asofsky of MLB.com has some Yankee tidbits including Pettitte’s x-rays and Gardner maybe coming back in a limited role.

Doug Rush of The Bleach Report ponders if Ichiro Suzuki could be the Yankees right fielder in 2013.

  1. ANDREW MARCHLAND IS NOT THAT GOOD. HE DOESNT DELVE INTO THE NUMBERS LIKE A REAL FAN
    HERE ARE THE REAL NUMBERS

    JETER/ROSE AT 11637 PLATE APPEARANCES – HITS 3228/3216, RUNS 1830/1682, RBI 1229/975, STOLENBASES 346/140, XBH 826/849, WALKS 1021/1109, HBP 162/76, SH 87/38, SF 53/53
( ROSE HAD 18 REACHED ON CATHCERS INTERFERANCE IN THAT TIME, JETER NONE)

THROUGH THEIR RESPECTIVE FIRST 11637 PLATE APPEARANCE, ROSE WAS 3216 FOR 10343 , 310.9348 AVG, WHILE JETER IS 3228 FOR 10314, 312.9727 AVG

THROUGH THEIR RESPECTIVE FIRST 11637 PLATE APPEARANCES, JETER HAS 12 MORE HITS THAN ROSE IN 12 LESS GAMES APPEARED IN, 29 LESS AB,.. WALKS PLUS HIT BY PITCH, JETERS AT 1183, ROSE 1185

JETER LESADS ALL AL SHORTSTOPS IN HITS, RUNS, AND AVERAGE, AND IS 2ND IN OPS, HE IS GONNA WIN A SILVER SLUGGER,.. AND WITH ONLY 8 ERRORS, IF HE DOESNT MAKE ANOTHER ERROR, HE WILL WIN A GOLD GLOVE

first 54 yankee games, jeter played in 53 games, with 75 hits, 329 avg, next 53 games jeter played in 52 games with 65 hits, 298 avg, IF JETER CAN GET 72 HITS IN FINAL 55 GAMES, HE WILL REACH 3300 HITS

JETER IS 140 FOR 446, 314 AVG, PLAYING IN 105 OF 107 GAMES, 4.2476 AB/G, IF JETER GETS 72 MORE HITS PLAYING IN 50 OF FINAL 55 GAMES, HE WILL HAVE 212 HITS AND 322 AVG

THATS WHAT MARCHLAND SHOULD HAVE SAID– IF HE HADS THE DRIVE TO ACTUALLY DO THE LEG WORK INVOLVED

  2. Great news about Andy…. I can imagine how badly he wants to be back on the hill, but he’s gotta let that ankle heal.

  3. Wow….Jim……I like your Jeter analysis……..

do you agree with Ken that Jeter is almost washed up?

    • twasp, you are the stats guy, look up Jeters defensive numbers the last couple of years. I think he is on slippery footing as to when his bat is no longer covering his defense. Jeter has 8+3 errors this year, if you have watched the games you know what I mean
Next year if his BA is .295 or less the bat and his defense add up to Nunez at SS most of or half the time. And if one looks at Nunez errors you will find in three years in the bigs at SS he has 15 errors…that tells you what? Let me help you, he isn’t a bad SS.
Should Jeter be DH and sometime SS next year? No, I don’t think he will go down that quick. But it could come at any time…SS at his age is just to much work and the legs go 1st…as go the legs, goes everything; hitting and fielding.
Twasp, Jeter is not washed-up at all, he is just not the same Jeter that will give the team 200 hits and steller defense anymore. You know it and anyone that has eyes knows it

  4. Ken – are you going back on your claim that he is close to done? Do you disagree with the majority that believe he is no where near done? Or has everyone gone blind except you?

    • No, I say Jeter is close to being the second best SS on the team.
Why don’t you check his stats? You and others seem to forget there are two sides to baseball when it comes to Jeter. But when Nunez needs the same time as Jeter had, to adjust to playing in the big leagues and he makes (so far) less errors in the same amount of time (at SS), Jeter fans say he is a bad SS.
Again, you assume I am the only one that has seen the decline of Jeter. Jeter to-day is and avg SS at best…if one balances out defense and offense. As I read more and more blogs and writers there are more and more coming out and saying about the same as I have of Jeter.
He is not washed-up, he is not the Jeter of old that’s all!

  5. Ken – you back step so fast when someone challenges you on your view of Jeter that from now on , , I will call it OLD YANKEE MOONWALKING(tm)

Jeter is a good fielding SS, and a well above average offensive SS , with incredible unmatched intangibles (leadership, courage, instincts etc.. )
