Notables:

Austin Romine has been called up to AAA along with Kelvin Perez, and Ramiro Pena has returned to SWB after being released.
Angelo Gumbs of Charleston has resumed swinging the bat; hopefully he’ll get some games in before the season ends.
Yadil Mujica was promoted to High-A Tampa, and Abe Almonte returns to Trenton.
Cody Johnson is officially out for the season.

Baseball America has released their MiL tools awards:
Eastern Leaguers Cody Johnson (best power), Abe Almonte (fastest baserunner) and Brett Marshall (best changeup).
SAL League Tyler Austin (best hitting), Gary Sanchez (best power) and Mason Williams (best defense). Mark Montgomery got the snub for best reliever. Bollocks.

Rafael DePaula of the DSL Yankees is far too good to be playing in the Dominican; This past week he made two starts, one a 5 inning no-hitter (1BB, 7K) and another 5 inning shutout (2H, 1BB, 8K). He’s thrown 57.2 innings to the tune of a 1.56ERA with 18BB’s to 81K’s and held batters to a .163 average. Can’t wait to see what he can do stateside.

SWB Yankees 6-2 on the week, 69-54 overall, lead Pawsox by two games
Chris Dickerson lit it up going 14-31 with 2 2B’s, 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s. Brandon Laird has come around a bit going 10-34 with a pair of doubles and two long balls pitching in 5 RBI’s. Corban Joseph showed some power going deep three times, knocking in 5 while hitting 7-26. Eduardo Nunez got a few licks in going 7-29 and driving in six. Adam Warren has been throwing the ball fairly well making two starts; his line for the week was 14IP, 8H, 4ER, 4BB, 14K. Reliever Chase Whitley threw 9 innings giving up two hits, walking one and striking out 9. Kelvin Perez made his AAA debut with a line of 2.2IP, 1H, 0ER, 0BB, 2K’s. Jaun Cedeno also had a good week throwing 4.2 scoreless innings giving up four hits, zero walks and striking out five.

Trenton Thunder 1-5 on the week, 70-51 overall. Still five games up in the standings, but an ugly week for sure.
Zoilo Almonte lead the Thunder going 8-24 with 2 2B’s, 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s. Abe Almonte made his return and went 5-20 with three doubles and drove in two. David Adams chipped in with a 7-20 week and drove in a pair. Vidal Nuno made one start this week and went 6IP, 6H, 3ER, 1BB and 8K’s. He was outstanding to start the game but surrendered a three run bomb. Mark Montgomery has slipped a little his last few appearances; he gave up two runs over 3 innings with 2BB’s and 5K’s. Hopefully he rights the ship soon; he’ll need to be on his game for a playoff run.

Tampa Yankees 3-3 on the week, 59-58 on the year
Slade Heathcott has been outstanding as of late; this week he went 12-25 with a pair of doubles while going deep once and driving in five. Kyle Roller hit three taters in a 6-16 bid that included two triples and 10! RBI’s. Tyler Austin is coming around a bit with his first HR in Tampa; he added a pair of doubles and drove in four on the week. Gary Sanchez has also started to come alive with a 10-23 performance; he doubled, homered and drove in eight. On the hill Nik Turley made two starts ending with a line of 11IP, 8H, 5ER, 8BB, 9K’s. Branden Pinder continues to throw up zeroes pitching 4 innings in relief; he gave up four hits while walking two and striking out six. Jeremy Bleich continues his way back up the ladder pitching 4 innings of 2 run ball. He walked two and struck out four.

Charleston RiverDogs 2-2 on a weather shortened week, 61-55 on the year
Since being promoted Saxon Butler has scuffled a bit; he went 3-14 on the week with a 2B and 2 RBI’s. Cito Culver has started to come around a little, going 5-13 with an RBI and 3BB’s while striking out only once. Dante Bichette Jr. is still sputtering, although he’s had a better second half; he had a 4-17 week with one going for extra bases. Eduardo Sosa finished with a 5-13 week but that was mostly due to a big game on Monday where he went 4-6. Ali Castillo turned out the best BA of the Dogs going 10-18 with a pair of doubles. On the pitching side Corey Black (6IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K) and Matt Bashmore (5IP, 3H, 0ER, 0BB, 6K) each made one start while relievers Nick Goody (3IP, 1H, 0BB, 5K) and John Brebbia (2IP, 2H, BB, K) each went scoreless.

SI Yanks 1-6 on the week and 16-37 overall. Just awful they are
Ravel Santana had himself a decent week going 9-24 with a HR and 2 RBI’s. Would be really nice to see him get it going to finish out the year. Peter O’Brien showed some power by going deep three times and driving in five. He went 7-27 on the week. Taylor Dugas also had a good showing with an 8-22 clip with a 2B and an RBI. Pitcher Evan Rutckyj ended the week with 10IP, 11H, 4ER, 4BB, 9K’s. James Pazos threw 4.3 innings giving up 3 hits, a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. Stefan Lopez tossed 3.2 innings of one hit ball and Derek Varnadore threw a five inning one hitter and then gave up a run in one inning of relief.

GCL Yankees 4-3 on the week, 29-19 on the year
Yeicock Calderon kicks off the GCL squad with a 6-19 week that included a triple and two HR’s. Austin Aune stumbled a little going 4-17 with two doubles and a RBI. Chris Breen went 4-10 with a lone RBI. On the pitching side Zach Nuding went 7 scoreless innings on 3 hits while walking one and striking out four. Kenedy Agramonte threw 3.1 innings of 2 hit ball with one walk and eight strikeouts. Rookie Davis chipped in with three innings of one run ball with a single strikeout.
