  1. Delia – Is Bobby Valentine a good mgr?

He seems to have done some strange stuff this season:

    1. Calling out Youklis in the press and saying he doesn’t seem to have the passion anymore.

    2. Leaving Lester in to give up 11runs , embarrassing him.

    3. Saying Varitek “beat up Arod”

    4. Saying “Jeter was out of position during the Flip play”.

    • Bobby Valentine is one of the most controversial managers Boston has had. I don’t respect him as a manager and I don’t blame Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez for feeling the same way I do. I think Valentine would be a good manager if this was the year 2000. Valentine is too old school which is something that is not going to win him a championship.

    • twasp…
At the time of the famous; “Jeter Flip” most (so called) experts were divided on him being out-of-place or not! As I don’t remember seeing where he was before the throw, I can’t say…so I won’t!
Bobby may be right on his saying the fip was a bad play that turned out ok, because Giambi didn’t slide!
I do know it helped win the game, why Giambi didn’t slide is understandable but, was the wrong choice.

      • Giambi didn’t slide because he saw the ball go over the cut-off man’s head and didn’t see Jeter COME OUT OF NOWHERE until it was too late. Jeter made one of the greatest plays in playoff history!

  2. Big Kudos For CashMan this season for

    Kuroda
    Rapada

    Iichy
    Nix

    Ibanez
    Jones

    Stewart
    McGeehee

  3. Rivalry is just not the same without

    Pedro
    Manny
    Youklis
    Varitek
    Lowell
    Papelbon

    TWASP couldn’t stand those morons.

    • twasp, I think you will see some big changes in Boston next year. Three years out of the playoffs just doesn’t cut it. I can see them hiring Varitek as their next manager. They will trade Beckett, and Lackey if possible. They will look to sign 2 starting pitchers like Haren, Shields, Feldman, Jackson, or Lewis. If they get 2 of them they have a chance to win next year, they do scor alot of runs.

  4. Yeah Doug their pitching let them down this year

  5. Exactly Delia …BV is an arrogant dinosaur.

  6. And let’s not forget CashMan pickup of Chavez….excellent.

  7. I have a feeling that Pineda or Campos will be good pitcher for the Yanks down the road. Yanks minor league pitching was snake bit this year. Pineda, Campos, Banuelos, and Betances all have potential.

    • Campos will be a help for the Yankees in a year or two, Pineda next year (or the other way around?). There is one other pitcher I think could make the team soon, one of the Cubans (can’t remember his name).
As for B&B, I think the talent is there, they just haven’t put things together yet, will they ever…I hope so!

  8. Hey Doug….have you seen the tremendous season young Todd Frazier is having? Another Jersey kid. Hit his 17th HR today and has an OPS over .900 for the 1st place Reds.

Sometimes you have to give young players a chance. Guys like Cano, Nova, Wang, Phelps, Melky and Robertson weren’t the most highly regarded prospects but they were given a shot and opened some eyes.

    • fishjam, yes I follow him every day, I have the perfect headlines for the rookies of the year, Jersey Boys, Trout and Frazier.

      • There you go! i was trying to figure out if Frazier is eligible for ROY. He barely was under the AB cut-off last season but there’s also a days on the active roster requirement. it’s something like 140 ABs and 50 days on the roster…..his ABs were around 120 so it depends on his service time. Unfortunately, he might have had too much time last yr to qualify….not sure though.

  9. Doug – if Frazier was sent to the minors…..what would Howard Cosell say?

  10. A lot of Yankees fans live in areas where they have CABLEVISION. Cablevision just added the NFL Network, you get it free if you are Gold or Silver package, you have to pay 6.95 a month to get the sports and entertainment package to get it if you just have basic cable. They just did this yesterday.

ON THE SAME DAY, CABLEVISION TOOK AWAY WPIX CHANNEL 11, WPHIL 17 PHILLY, AND ANT TV.

IVE BEEN WATCHING CHANNEL 11 MY WHOLE LIFE SINCE THE 1960′S.

IT IS AN OVER THE AIR CHANNEL.

WHY IS IT BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM ME REALLY?

SO I CAN HAVE THE OPTION TO BUY A SPORTS CHANNEL OF THE NFL, WHICH I WILL NEVER BUY ANYWAY

I already get on my cable::: msg varsity, espn, espn 2, espn news, cbs sports net, nbc sports net, msg, msg plus, yes, sny, mlb network, nba network, speed tv—- that is 13 sports channels on basic cable —– plus major sports on regular cbs, nbc, fox, abc,
plus sometimes – yankees on my 9, mets on wpix 11, phillies on wphl 17
plus games on TNT AND TBS, AND SOMETIMES EVEN FX

AS I AM GETTING ALL THAT SPORTS IN MY REGULAR CABLE— SO MUCH SPORTS ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO WATCH IT ALL —WHY WOULD I NOW PAY 6.95 A MONTH FOR THE NFL NETWORK——- ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE TAKING AWAY WPIX 11– WHICH I DO WATCH.?

THE METS ARE ON CHANNEL 11 TOMORROW,…… AS THE YANKEES DONT PLAY TIL 8PM, I WAS PLANNING ON WATCHING THE METS , BUT NOW I CAN NOT.—— TRY TO GET ANSWERS– ALL YOU GET IS FORM LETTERS

A CHILD COULD PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER AND UNDERSTAN THE ACCESS TO THE NFL NETWORK IS LINKED TO THE TAKING AWAY OF WPIX 11, WPHL 17, AND ANT TV

  11. Just so you fans will believe what I have been saying for years is true (good idea), here is a quote from fishjam!

“Sometimes you have to give young players a chance. Guys like Cano, Nova, Wang, Phelps, Melky and Robertson weren’t the most highly regarded prospects but they were given a shot and opened some eyes.”

That doesn’t mean one should bring up two or thee at a time. There is no sense keeping players in AAA, AA just because they are not hitting .320 etc.,! Pena and Nunez were both given a chance to play, both showed that their game needed some work! Nunez is a major league player, soon to return to all TV screens where ever the Yankees play!

    • That’s a great quote, but I’m a little sad Gardner was left off the list. He wasn’t a high prospect either but he has proven to be a huge catalyst for the Yankees when he’s healthy. This year for him was just unfortunate since he was so focused on this being his bounce back year.

      • Delia…
I am sorry he wasn’t on the list but, maybe it was because only a few of us thought Brett was going to be an important part of the Yankees team…Cashman thought he would be.
The year before he came up, Cashman said to him (in spring training) something like this; “If you hit right handed you would be going north with us.”
fishjam just forgot him I think, he is to smart not to know Bretts value to the team.

        • Ken – if you remember TWASP was the first to support Gardner on iYankees. TWASP used the phrase SPEED KILLS(tm).

          • From the first time I saw Gardner, I knew he was something special that the Yankees haven’t had in years. He’s a very important part to the Yankees and without his speed in the outfield or the basepaths, who knows if the Yankees would have finished first in the American League East last year.

          • twasp..
Get a life and quit taking credits for what others say. I was writing about Brett long before you even knew his name. He had not even been invited to spring training the year I started writing about him and tagged the “Speed Kills” tag on him. I had seen him on my yearly trips around the minors and liked what I saw.
If you must have the “Speed Kills” thing go for it…no big deal! But not something like being the ONLY guy that was backing Brett when most all were saying he was a 4th or 5th OF at best. I took a lot of Sh-t for standing up for him at the time!
            Thank you very much!

            • Ken – remember when TO Chris on iYankees said he would never be anything more than a 4th outfielder. And you and TWASP confronted him ?

              • Oh I remember it very well! He reacted as he always did in those days, need I say more?
But twasp, that was about a year or two after I started writing about Brett.
Yes, I expect he will read this, so what!

    • Ken – you are riding the Big Fish (in a small pond) coat tails again. Please puttogether a statistical analysis that proves your hypothesis.

HYPOTHESIS- young prospects in the Yankee farm system have added value to the major league club enough in the past to make it a viable route as a future strategy.

Doug – your rebuttal to Fish does not need any statistics.

      • You are right, I was using fishjams name to back up something I have been preaching for years; Use and try our own people when we can, don’t just trade them away!
I apologize fishjam, for using your name for my personnel back-up!

        • OldYank….feel free to use your pal fishjams name for whatever you like. No need to apologize. And you are right, I neglected to put Gardner’s name in there but he is a perfect example for a prospect that the “experts” didn’t like who became a starter.

  12. Delia – you have always rightfully so, been a big supporter of Gardner….his UZRs are unreal. His speed is epic. And once he gets his OBP near .400 he will be an AllStar.

  13. Delia – TWASP went to High School with Brett in North Carolina. You could see his talent then. When he was drafted by the Yankees we had a big party and Brett came. He got so drunk TWASP had to drive him home.

After last period some days we would go race on the track and he would always beat me. I wrote on his locker SPEED KILLS(tm) and he laughed…..

  14. Ken – do you mind if I send your comment here to TO? I have kept in touch with him and I’m sure he would enjoy it….

  15. Ken – in the 70s a pitcher for the Yankees threw a pitch called the folly floater…..what was his name?
