Morning Bits: Kuroda, Jeter

Good morning everyone and a happy Saturday to everyone. Yankees finally were able to stop their 3 game halt with CC Sabathia on the mound. Hiroki Kuroda takes the ball tonight as the Yankees try to take the series. Here are your morning links.

– Speaking of Hiroki Kuroda, could he possibly win the Cy Young award? While ESPN says he has good numbers–that’s a negative.

– We all saw Derek Jeter get hit in the head last night with a pitch and as expected, he isn’t happy about it.

– With the final month of the regular season rapidly approaching, the Yankees have a chance to once again pad their lead against the Rays and the Orioles.

  1. I THINK JETER IS OK, I HOPE.
ANYWAY. i was going through the top 60 all time runs scored leaders in MLB history this morning.

Of the top 60 , 43 are in the HOF.
The players that arent are : Bonds, Rose*, Arod, Jeter, Biggio, Damon, Palmero, Griffey JR., Ryan, Vanhaltren, Sheffield, Chipper Jones, Dahlen, Thome, Raines, Manny Ramirez, and Lofton.
Not sure if Palmero or Biggio been voted on yet, if not, 11 of those 17 have yet to be voted on.

Of the top 60 runs scored leaders all time, these players have the most 100+ runs scored seasons’
(players underneath the top 60 may have 10 or more seasons with 100 runs, but I only got through the top 60 so far)

A 15th 100+ runs scored season for Jeter will be yet another major accomplishment that puts Jeter as a ALL TIME LEGINDARY STATUS

    Aaron-15
Jeter-13—- about to get his 14th
    Arod -13
    Gehrig -13
    Bonds-12
    Ruth-12
    Mays -12
    Gehringer -12
    Cobb – 11
    Musial – 11
    Foxx – 11
    Hamilton – 11
    Van Haltran – 11
    Rose – 10
    Mcphee – 10
    Damon – 10
    Delahanty – 10

  2. Only 70 players have had 1500+ runs scored in MLB History
51 of those players are in the hall

the 19 players of those 70 not in the hall are:
Bonds, Rose*, Arod, Jeter, Biggio, Damon, Palmero, Griffey JR., Ryan, Vanhaltren, Sheffield, Chipper Jones, Dahlen, Thome, Raines, Manny Ramirez,Lofton.Tom Brown, and Bagwell.

Of the top 70 runs scored leaders all time, these players have the most 100+ runs scored seasons

(18 players have had 10 or more 100+ run seasons and 1500+ total runs)

    Aaron-15
Jeter-13—- about to get his 14th
    Arod -13
    Henderson -13
    Gehrig -13
    Bonds-12
    Ruth-12
    Mays -12
    Gehringer -12
    Cobb – 11
    Musial – 11
    Foxx – 11
    Hamilton – 11
    Van Haltran – 11
    Rose – 10
    Mcphee – 10
    Damon – 10
    Delahanty – 10

Johnny Damon is one of only 8 players 10 have at least 10 100+ run seasons and1500+ runs and played their entire career from 1950 on, and one of only 18 players ever all time.

Of those 18 players, Jeter and Arod are still playing, Rose is not eligible for the HOF, Bonds will not get enough votes because of the PED Cloud, Van Haltran was simple passed over, and Damon was still playing this season. The other 12 are in the HOF.

The question is will Damon be passed over for the HOF?

  3. correction for above- Van Haltran had 12 -100 run seasons

The Veterans Comittee should propably take a 2nd look at Georger Van Haltren.

    He played 1887-1902, 17 seasons
    .
He had 2544 hits, 1642 runs, 12-100 run seasons, 1015 rbi, 316 lifetime avg, 418 lifetime OBP, and 583 stolen bases.

Although players in his era may had had much bigger seasons, batting near or at 400, I believe Van Haltran’s run scoring and speed are HOF quality

  4. Now I turn my attention to hits.

95 players have had 2500+ hits in MLB

(BASEBALL REFERENCE.COM, MAY INCLUDE SOME HITSA PRIOR TO 1877, THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION)

Of those 95 players, 7 are still playing right now, Manny Ramirez tried to get a job but could not, or it would have been 8.
Those 7 are Jeter, Arod, Vizquel, Damon*, Chipper Jones, Vlad Guerrero, Ichiro Suzuki

The next up for 2500 hits is Bobby Abreu, at 2434 hits, 66 hits away.

Of the 88 retired players with 2500 hits , 62 are in the HOF

The following 26 players are retired with over 2500 hits but not in the HOF::

(asrterisk, ** means ineligible, not eligible yet, or just becoming eligible)
    Rose 4256**
    Biggio 3060**
    Palmeiro 3020
    Bonds 2935**
    Baines 2866
    Ivan Rodriguez 2844**
    Griffey Jr 2781**
    Pinson 2757
    Oliver 2743
    Staub 2716
    Buckner 2715
    Parker 2712
    Doc Cramer 2705
    Sheffield 2009**
    Love Cross 2651
    Raines 2605
    Garvey 2599
    Luis Gonzolez 2591**
    Julio Franco 2586**
    Manny Ramirez 2574**
    Willie Davis 2561
    Steve Finley 2548**
    VanHaltran 2544
    Garret Anderson 2529**
    Buddy Bell 2514
    Jimmy Ryan 2513

So, Basically out of the 95 total players that have had 2500+ hits lifetime,…

ONLY 15 WERE PASSED OVER , 10 ARE RETIRED 2007 OR LATER, 7 ARE STILL PLAYYING, ROSE IS INELIGIBLE STAUS, AND 62 ARE IN THE HALL OF FAME

    INTERESTING, NO?

  5. Retired players with 2500 hits and 1500 runs, that are not in the HOF

Rose, Biggio, Palmeiro, Bonds, Griffey Jr, Sheffield, Raines, Manny Ramirez, Van Haltran, Jimmy Ryan

only 10 players —- who on the list is getting in?

Rose cant get in,..Biggio may have the “cloud”, Bonds, Palmeiro, Sheffield, Ramirez have the “cloud”, Van Haltran retired in 1903, and Jimmy Ryan retied in 1903 as well,

Tim Raines retired in 2002 and has yet to break through the vote– he deserves to be in.

And GriffeyJr. retired in 2010– and may be the only player to get in from this list of 10.

Cuurent players still playing with 2500 hits and 1500 runs:
Jeter, Arod, Damon, Chipper Jones, — only 4

(and voters may not go for Damon like I think they should,… and Arod had the “cloud”)

Everyone else that ever played that has 2500 hits, and 1500 runs scored – ARE IN THE HALL OF FAME

ONLY 14 ARE NOT IN, 10 ARE RETIRED, AND 4 HAVE PLAYED IN THIS SEASON, FOR 14 TOTAL.

  6. so, out of the 67 players with both 2500 hits and 1500 runs,…. 53 are in the HOF,.

OF THE 14 THAT ARE NOT IN THE HOF, 10 ARE RETIRED, 4 ARE STILL PLAYING – SEE ABOVE POST.

on a side not—- of the 70 players with 1500 runs scored,. only 13 failed to get 2500 hits
    they are :

(9 in the Hall of Fame, 1 still playing)

    Hamilton hof,
    Mcphee hof,
    Mantle hof,
    Connor hof,
    Dahlen hof,
    Thome , still playing,
    Duffy hof,
    Lofton,
    Brouthers hof,
    Tom Brown,
    Bagwell,
    Eddie Matthews hof,
    Mike Schmidt hof

  7. YEAH I GOT IT RIGHT NOW, UPON CORRECTION.

    SUMMARY OF MY ANALYSIS-

57 PLAYERS HAVE HAD 2500 HITS AND 1500 RUNS, 43 ARE IN THE HALL, 14 ARE NOT. OF THOSE 14, 10 ARE RETIRED, 4 STILL PLAYING

OF THE 70 PLAYERS WITH 1500 RUNS 51 ARE IN THE HALL– SOME STILL PLAYING, SOME COMING UP FOR VOTE, SOME PASSED BY

OF THE 95 PLAYERS WITH 2500 HITS 62 ARE IN THE HALL,… SOME ARE STILL PLAYING, SOLME ARE COMING UP FOR VOTE, SOME PASSED BY

    SEE ABOVE POSTS FOR DETAILS

I THINK MY POINT IS, UPON ANALZING THIS FROM A HITS AND RUNS PERSPECTIVE ONLY,..
I LIKE TIM RAINES, Van Haltran, and Damon for the HOF, as clear borderline candidates.

I still give players like Staub, Buddy Bell, and Baines honerable mention

    anyone have an opinion?

  8. Jim – anyone with a cloud ….goes into the yellow wing of the HOF……how to find it…..the door is shaped like a big syringe.

    • no opinion on Tim Raines?

      • Tim Raines – should be in. For a 7/8 year span he was an awesome rickey type table setter speedster. His HiOF vote % goes up every year and is at about 50%q…… he’ll make it.

        • OK,,, based on my analysis today, of players 1877-present, players with 2500 hits and 1500 runs, which raines has, and his 808 stolen bases,…… i would hope he would get in,…. he did enough to get in,…

but i am onlyt a fan,.. it is up to the sports writers that are professionals

wait til i put up my heartfelt argument for gil hodges

but i’ll save that for another day,… when i amn really “feeling” it

          • Jim – you never saw Hodges play did you?

            • NAH, MY MOM, SHE GREW UP IN BROOKLYN, WENT TO EBBITS FIELD ALL THE TIME….
I’VE HEARD THE STORIES MY ENTIRE LIFE
AND IN ADULTHOOD, LOOK DEEPLY INTO HODGES AND WHAT HE MEANT TO THE DODGERS, ALONG WITH HIS NUMBERS IN HIS ERA.

MY MOMS GOT BROOKLYN DODGER STUFF PACKED AWAY

              BUT ANYWAY

  9. it is not funny how TIM RAINES’ name keeps popping up on lists.

Tim Raines played 1979-2002, missing the entire 2000 season, so 23 seasons, ….. but the meat of his career was 82-95, 14 seasons,…

Raines had 2605 hits and 1571 runs—– one of only 57 players in history to do this,…. as i said, 43 are in the hall and 4 are still playing.

Raines had 808 stolen bases, 5th all time,…….. are you kidding me?

Raines had a 294 avg, and 384 OBP

Top 20 in MVP voting 7 times

    Raines won a batting title

in 2012 Raines had 48.7% of the vote, 5th highest out of 27 players voted on

    Raines was a solid player.

That is my argument for Raines

I wasnt a Montreal fan,… but I respected the Expos team.

As we are only talking about 57 players ever 1877-present to reach 2500 hits and 1500 runs, and 43 of them are in the HOF, WITH 4 STILL PLAYING, LOL,…

And the fact players got in that did thibgfs with 1500 runs but without 2500 hits, like Schmidt on power,

Raines should get in based on stolen bases above and beyond reality,…. 808, 5th all time

I am fairly certain that if this arguement does not carry the day,….. I will never get Gil Hodges in the HOF eaither.

  10. Again, what are we really tal, king about here?

the year 1877-present,… over , what 20,000 players to waer an MLB uniform.

only 57 players ever had 2500 hits and 1500 runs,– ( Raines is one of them)

43 of those pplayers are in the HOF,

4 OF THE 57 ARE STILL PL;AYING, AND ONE HAS ADMITTED TO PED’S- AROD, leaving damon, jeter, and chipper

10 of 57 are retired and not in—- 1 of those bet on baseball and cant get in, 5 probably used PED’S so their is a cloud, 2 retired in 1903, lol

Leaving just RAINES TO GET IN,… AND GRIFFEY WHO JUST RETIRED AT END OF 2010 SEASON,…

AND PLAYERS APPROACHING 2500 HITS LIKE Bobby Abreu, at 2434 hits, 66 hits away. AND 1439 RUNS,… AT AGE 38, ARE SOON TO BE ON THE LIST

NEXT UP AFTER ABREU IS TODD HELTON, AGE 38 , AT 2420 HITS AND 1360 RUNS,… HE MIGHT COME UP SHORT,… BUT HE HAS PLAYED HIS ENTIRE CAREER ON THE ROCKIES.

HELTON ALSO HAS SMASHED 1345 RBIS,.. LOL,…HAS 354 HOMERS AND 570 DOUBLES, AND THIS IS JUST HIS 16TH SEASON

DID HELTON USE PEDS, I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY ALEGATION.

HE WON A BATTING TITLE IN 2000, BATTING 372, THATS INSANE

HELTON HAS A 320 LIFETIME AVERAGE, AND A 419 OBP,

IF HELTON REACHES MY “RAINES” CRITERIA OF 2500 HITS / 1500 RUNS,… THIS GUY SHOULD BE A HALL OF FAMER

COLORADO ROCKIES FANS WOULD BE PISSED OFF BEYOND BELIEF IF HELTON DOESNT GET IN, I WOPULD THINK

BUT THEN AGAIN —– JUST ASK RUSTY STAUB HOW THAT FEELS

  11. If the writers take each eligible player on a case by case situation some of the players may get in.
The idea of not voting on a player that hasn’t been proven to take PED etc., only because there is a cloud over them. In other words, someone unknown to anyone has made an accusation but has not shown any proof at all.
That is not good enough to not vote for a player, just because someone said this or that about them.

    • Yeah Ken….it’s going to be interesting to see how writers vote on players that haven’t been proved to have cheated. And what about the players named in the Mitchell Report? Will that count as proof or will it just be players who failed tests and/or admitted PED use?

  12. Ken – is it true you are now posting comments on Yankee Analysts?

  13. I have been for a long time and other places!
Did you read the last line above?
Kind of made a dumb statement didn’t you? You said those with a cloud over their head should be voted into the Yellow Wing.
I thought one was not to be found guilty without some proof…any proof will do but, not hearsay!
    Shame on you twasp.

  14. Ha ha Ken……the Yellow Wing will be air conditioned. Visitors will be able to view huge life sized bobble heads of Arod, Clemens, bonds…..

No mention of them as guilty will be exhibited. (the yellow parking lot will be shaped as an asterisk however)

  15. Ken….can you give me the names of the other sites that you comment on? I miss you when you are not here. I want to follow you there.
