Morning Bits: Soriano blows off the media, Stretch run & More

What a horrible day for the Yankees in many ways last night.   They lost the game and lost Mark Teixeira for at least a week.  The year of the injuries continues.   Also Baltimore moved up in the standings.  The Yankees are back at it tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7:05PM EST.  On the mound will be Hughes vs Romero.   I will be at the game tonight as well.

Enjoy the day.  Now for some links….

Johnette Howard of ESPN NY writes that the Bad News Bombers are going into the stretch run the wrong way.

Ian Begley has some notes on the Bombers including that A-Rod will take batting practice today.

Greg Zeck of has the preview of tonight’s game.

John Harper of The Daily News mentions that Soriano blew off the media after blowing the game last night.

  1. This is the second time since he’s been here that Soriano blew off the media because he blew the game. He needs to own up to it like a man! A lot of players blow games, but you still see them in the clubhouse after to own up to their mistakes! When Mariano Rivera blows a save, do you see him running and hiding? No. He stands there, addresses the media and owns up to his mistake. Soriano’s a good pitcher but he doesn’t have integrity.

  2. Joel Sherman says the Dodgers called Cashman about Tex and CC. What would you guys do if this Winter LA said we will take ARod’s entire contract if you also give us CC Sabathia for 2-3 prospects?

CC is SO important to this team but that would free up $50 Million + per year in salary for the next 5-6 years. VERY tempting…….what would you guys do and how would you spend the $50M+??

    • Wow….that would be tough. I don’t want to lose Teix, but CC and A-Rod….I think I’d do it because of Alex’s contract. CC has been our horse and a great ace for so many years but even this year his build and his amount of innings thrown is catching up to him.

I’m not saying look to trade him, but if an offer comes up somewhere that also frees A-Rod’s contract and gives us 2-3 solid prospects, then I’d have to look into it.

But I don’t believe L.A. would do that at this point. They have so many large contracts (don’t forget about paying Kershaw big cash next offseason), and I have no idea how they would afford it.

Let’s say it did happen, and we had $50 million to spend:

      - sign Mike Napoli or Carlos Ruiz
      - sign Zack Grienke and/or Brandon McCarthy
      - re-sign Nick Swisher
      - trade for Chase Headley

I think that would be ideal. But that’s my opinion of course.

    • I’m sorry, but I’m not going to give up CC just so the Dodgers could take A-Rod. CC is an important part of the team and he’s the one constant in the rotation. He delivers when we need him. It’s also going to be hard to find a long term ace. Kuroda’s 37 years old so he’ll be in the majors for what, 2-3 years? As tempting as it is to free up $50 million, I wouldn’t do it.

      • Delia- this move would be for the future, so we don’t go 15 years without a pennant again. We have a very old one dimensional team…it needs to be revamped from head down.

We can use Clemens as a stop gap until we find another ace. He’ll fit in well with HGH Andy.

        • I agree twasp except for Clemens and “HGH Andy”….he took it to recover from injury on less than a few occasions while it was still legal. He didn’t get any bigger or pitched any better. He used it for what it’s supposed to be used for.

I don’t want to start an argument (I basically am), but Pettitte is my favorite player and he is not a cheater like the Bonds, Mcwires, and Sosas of the world.

          • They all took it while it was still legal Brian and Twasp did u just suggest bringing Clemens back? lol. It doesn’t need to be revamped ATM when they have a shot at a title if they can get healthy.

  3. Bye bye Arod, bye-bye CC, hello cliff, Hello Josh, hello choo, bye bye Grandy bye-bye swish.

Derek to 3rd, Nunez to SS.

  4. Just read that Roy Oswalt cleared waivers.

  5. That should be of no interest to us Oswalt is done lol

  6. Brian – I don’t disagree with anything you said. I think Petite is generally good man who got caught up in occasional use of HGH because of his association with Clemens and mcnamee before it was officially banned by MLB.

    Read below:

Two things I didn’t like was 1.using his dying fathers name to get more HGH and2. I didn’t like his flip- flopping on his testimony that On February 13, 2008, in an affidavit made public as part of a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Oversight and Governmental Reform, Pettitte admitted to additional injections of HGH twice in one day in 2004, using HGH obtained via prescription for his seriously ill father. Also in this affidavit Pettitte unequivocally recalled being told by former Yankees teammate Clemens in 1999 or 2000 that Clemens had recently received injections of HGH. Clemens claimed during the noted hearing that Pettitte “misremembered” Clemens’s 1999/2000 HGH remark, alleging that what Pettitte really heard was Clemens’s reporting of his wife’s use of HGH at that time, though earlier during this same hearing Clemens denied knowing of any use of HGH by his wife. McNamee corroborated Pettitte’s recollection of events.Clemens told him he did drugs.

    • It just goes to show if you don’t do the research, believing the generally accepted story can make someone (me) look like a fool. You did bring up good points. And thanks for agreeing with me – I feel Andy really loves the game and wouldn’t do anything to harm it or un-naturally improve his hard-earned skills.

      • Yeah Brian…….Andy is a good dude from all I’ve read about him and comments from his peers. He’s not a hard core cheater….

  7. Matt B. — ha ha.”……you caught that one. I want to see Clemens throw the sawed off bat at Youklis.

  8. looking like nova is playing himself out of the playoffs.

    1. CC
    2. Petite
    3. Kuroda
    4. Hughes

  9. Experience, experience, experience………kuroda may blow up like Vazquez……..Andy never does.

But of course, point taken, we should see how Andy looks when he comes back …….

  10. Send me that Cano ball and If Kuroda starts game 2 I’ll send it back to you.

  11. Matt S….Where is everybody lately?

    Mike P

    • I’m pretty sure Brian Delia (not sure why you mentioned her twice hahha) Matt B, Jamie all commented last night.

Sometimes people are busy in life Twasp.

  12. Well when Steve Pearce is batting 4th how much buzz can you expect? lol
