Morning Bits: A-Rod, Hughes, Nunez

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! Yankees were able to come back and win yesterday so now their lead coming into today is 3 games. Yankees will try to make it a 4 game lead (and will try to take the series) with Phil Hughes on the mound.

– Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-4 yesterday and while Cashman said A-Rod will play again today, A-Rod said he wouldn’t.

– Speaking of Hughes, he had been working on his slider as proven last time when the Jays couldn’t figure him out. Hughes might unveil it again–or does what he always does and bring a new pitch against the Orioles.

– Eduardo Nunez possibly had one of the biggest RBI’s yesterday in the 4-3 victory over the Orioles which means something. Yankees should never send down Nunez again.

  1. Go Delia….go Delia …….Nunez rocks !

  2. IF WE DON’T MAKE THE SHOW, THE GM&MGR GOT TO GO. tm

    • Twasp, I totally agree with that statement!

Cashman said he needed full control and he got it in 2007/2008. He brought in Girardi and in the 5 years they missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 years, won a WS in 09 after spending $425 Million on 3 Free Agents.

Since then, he broke up the vets on that team to get younger and more athletic. But most of the moves were failures and here we are after 2 yrs of losing in the playoffs with a team that is older and less athletic than ever. They seem to be totally afraid to use young position players.

What we have are many high-priced older vets and ALL of the complementary pieces are veterans who can’t run or field and have severe platoon splits. Were’s the youth, where’s the multi-dimensional players? An old team built entirely around the HR and a pitching staff that badly needs Andy Pettitte to bail them out again.

      • I’m just worried there is a lot of talent in the minors. No one really ready soon but down the pipeline. I wonder if they show promise will they jerk them around in the minors instead of giving them a chance.

        • Nunez is ready to take a bigger role and next year David Adams and Corban Joseph will also. Zoilo could be a factor vs RHP. Other than that, their elite prospects are down a bit further however I think Austin can be fast-tracked. He’ll begin next yr in AA and if he hits the way he has he could get called up at some point if the Yanks change their mindset.

Guys like Cano & Melky were never given a position. They were brought up when the high-priced vets they had failed and they played well. Nowadays when the high priced guy fails they go find veteran retreads.

  3. Good synopsis Fish….. I think we were cheated out of at least one more title 2010….

I wonder if we did payroll dollars per win since 2007 which org would win?

  4. Twasp or anyone else I urge you if you are in tonight and not doing much to listen to the Trenton game tonight. Newly promoted Austin is in the game.

Game is in the 2nd inning. they are down 0-2
