  1. what do you think the odds are Jeter gets plunked today,. possibly on the hands?

Because of CC taking out an O’s player last night on a broken thumb,…. I put the odds at 2-1 Jeter gets thrown at, 3-1 Jeter gets plunked, and 4-1 the ball hits his hand or wrist.

I hope this does not happen.

I see this series as ready to erupt in a benches clearing brawl. Last series with Baltimore til the playoffs.

  2. Reynolds needs to get plunked. In the old days a hitter would get knocked down after hitting a long HR. With Reynolds hitting so many, he would have been plunked by now.

  3. Doug – many seasons the gold glove has been a popularity contest. I think even one season, the lumbering, juiced up Arod won it.

  4. jeter has 4 consecutive infield hits in a eow i think, 3 yesterday and 1 today.,, as far as hits go

  5. Has anyone payed any attention to the game?
Garcia was pitching a hitless 3 innings and the Yanks scored 5 runs in top of the 3rd. Garcia is on the way out of the game…yup, just gave up 3 runs, inter Joba, can he stop the bleeding?

  6. jeters 14 for last 28,…..

    as i am typing this

    jeter average —- 323.7288

    meguel cabrera —– 326.4540

    mike trout —— 328.4519

so jeter is 4.7231 points behind for the AL BATTING TITLE

The last Yankees the win a batting title were
    Bernie Williams 1998 339 avg
    Paul Oneil 1994 359 avg
    Mattingly 1984 343 avg
    Mantle 1956 353 avg

  7. yankees are off tomorrow, but the tigers and angels both play,.. i hope tout and babrera both go 0 for 5, lol

    “Chris” a True Fish Story

I was fishing one day when a young man joined me. we started talking about baseball and he said he was taking a few weeks off from baseball.
It seamed he was a pitcher for a minor league team and was not getting the job done.
I began by asking him what he threw and the speed of each.
He said a 90-93+/- FB, very good change, curve (working on) a power slider that is workable and a so so cutter.
I asked him how he threw, short or long arm, side, over the top, 3/4 what?
He started by saying, what do you mean short or long arm? I asked him to show me, he did, he was another Ewell Blackwell type (long arm). I told him there were a bunch of kids (17-21) playing at the park (very good park), the fish don’t like us, let’s go.
He was a bit impressed when I told him I had a big time fast ball at about 82-86, he laughed and said most people say they had a 92-95 fastball, let’s go.
Well, to (try) and make this short I asked him (with the blessing of the kids) to just pick up the ball and throw to 1st a few times, well it showed me his natural motion is short arm. I asked him to throw all his pitches.
His fast ball had good pop and jump, his change could be a big time pitch (had great feel for it) but, I asked him to throw his cutter after 3 changes and change again. I asked him how many times he was beat by throwing a cutter after a change or a change after cutter. Then do the same with a curve and cutter and a slider and a curve.
Then I asked him to just mix-up the FB, curve, and change. It seemed as though a light went off in his head. After explaining what Eddie Lopat told me about using short and long arm with the same pitches gave one six pitches not three (and worked for me somewhat) junk the cutter and slider. Unless they are dependable pitches…they go a long way when hit.
The following spring he showed up while I was fishing, we talked an had a good day with our catches. As we were leaving he said he had done very well in the winter league and would be moved up a step.
His pitching coach liked his idea of dropping his cutter and slider and try short arm but, the coach told him to stay with his motion (as had I) he said he is getting a bit more bite on his pitches and was thinking about adding his cuter to the mix come ST. I suggested he forget about the slider and concentrate on making his 3 pitches great.
His name was Chris ???????. I moved to another state, later that year. Never saw him again. I hope it worked out for him.

  9. Derek Jeter has played in 138 of 140 games

    191 for 586

323.7288 average, 4.7231 points behind the leader Trout

    Jeter has 3279 career hits

If Jeter can get 29 hits in final 22 games, that will give him 3308 hits

then to break pete rose 4257 Jeter would need to do the following in any combination for 949 more hits

    new contract
    2015— -170
    2016—- 150
    2017—- 126
    2018—–121 —– will turn 44 on June 26, 2018

thats 949 more hits after this season

I know it seems impossible, But I think Jeter will do better than what I have for 2013,2014, and 2015.

If he does do better than what I put down, lets say like 208 hits next season, 196 in 2014, 185 in 2015, thats 37 extra hits.

why not,….. Jeter wanted a way longer deal than he got, that means he wants to keep playing,

it is just the 2 seasons left on this current,. then just 4 more seasons

I know 126 hits in a season seems bad, but heck,

teixeira got 112 hits this season and might not play again

arods got 104 hits, and wont get past 130 hits most likely

swisher probably gonna get about 135 hits this season

I just want it , to see it, to be a fan seeing it, it just sometimes consumes my day dreams.

  10. I didn’t see today’s game as I was at the Jets game but it was a big win on many levels.

The win enabled them to get through this big 10-game stretch still maintaining a 1 game lead on BAL and 2 on TB. They came into this 10 game stretch with BAL & TB with a 3 game lead and lost 2 out of 3 to BAL, lost 2 out of 3 vs TB and with today’s win, earned a split of 4 with BAL. They did the bare minimum to keep their lead going 4-6.

But to look on the bright side, their offense is starting to click. They’ve scored 37 runs in their last 5 (7.4 per game) and some guys are heating up. They get a much needed day off today then the schedule takes a favorable turn for them.

White Baltimore & TB play each other for 3, the Yanks get 3 games at Fenway vs the Dead Sox. Boston has totally quit on Bobby Valentine and we MUST take advantage with a sweep. The Sox just got swept by lowly Toronto and have won just once in their last 12 games scoring just 31 runs in that stretch (2.6 per game). This is a chance to build the lead back up while BAL & TB beat on each other but the Yankees have to put their foot on Boston’s throat and seize this opportunity!
