Yankees Off-Day Notes: Teixeira
Good evening everyone. Tonight the Yankees are off but there has been some news regarding Mark Teixeira. Here’s the statement the Yankees released:
Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira was seen today by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He underwent an MRI which showed an irritation of his Grade 1 left calf strain. Teixeira will be evaluated on a weekly basis moving forward, and is expected to be unavailable to play for 10-14 days.
The Yankees also said they were planning to call-up Melky Mesa for speed on the base paths. I wouldn’t expect to see Teixeira for the rest of the regular season. Remember last season when Derek Jeter had almost the same injury? He was out for about 3 weeks. There are only for 3 weeks to the season. If Yankees make the play-offs, don’t expect to see Teixeira until then.

Delia,… excuse me…. BUT YOU FAILED TO ADRESS THE REAL ISSUE
THE REAL ISSUIE IS THE POST SEASON ROSTER
mark teixiera was on the regular 25 man roster, never went to the a dl, before septr 1st
MLB does not allow a team to transplant players that werewnt on the 25 man roster on august 31st to be on post season rosters
although they have rules to replace players due to seriuous injury
did your article adress this , no it did not
you leave a huge gap; to the fans to try to figure out on their own
is this good reporting?
is this really informed reporting?
no, i think not
listen,… my question is,….. what are the rules to replace tex on the 25 man roster for the post season?
do you even know??
do you even care?
this is critical to yankees fans?
my god man…
yeah, but dont feel l bad, no one else knows either,….
you think espn or YES, or anyone is talking about the answer
i’m sure girardi is behind closed doors
cause someone in the yankee organization knows the rules
THE FANS DESERVE TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON, as to the rules
THE FANS PAY FOR THE GAMES,.. PERIOD, POINT BLANK, /./.
withgout the fans, there is no game
make nio mistake about it
One thing. Teixeira is STILL on the 25 man roster because the rosters EXPANDED the rosters to 40. Melky Mesa is on the 40 man roster so he wouldn’t get a spot on the postseason roster regardless. Tex isn’t on the DL so he still WOULD.
I reported the same thing every other Yankee blog reported so don’t even QUESTION if this is good reporting. You want to try reporting? Be my guest. But don’t criticize mine.
OH MY GAWD,.. does eeryone in the world have a rwssding comprehensioin problem
I AM ASKING ABOUT THE POST SEASON ROSYTER RULES
REPLACING TEIX EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT A SERIOUS INJURY,.. HECK HE ISNT EVEN ON THE DL, LIKE YOU SAID
MLB AINT GONNA BUY THIS MONKEY BUSINESS
NO, YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE RULE IS, AND HAVE FAILED TO REPORT IT
EXACTLY, YOU SAID IT YOURSELF– YOU REPORTED THE SAME THING EVER OTHER YANKEE BLOIG REPORTED
YOU DIDNT DIG INTO THE STORY,.. YOU DIDNT DO ANYTHING TO SEPERATE YOURSELF
YOU DIDNT EXCELL AND BE ABOVE,
YOU MAILED IT IN
IKTS LIKE WHEN CANO JOGS SLOWLY TO FIRST BASE
NO EFFORT
BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING TO DIG UP!!! The article is about what the doctor said about Teixeira’s calf. It’s not about the post season roster, it’s not about anything else BUT HIS CALF! I ALWAYS put effort in everything I write and I am just reporting the news. I don’t have to explain about the postseason in an injury report about Texieria. Maybe IF the Yankees make the play-offs THEN I will write about the postseason roster when Teixeira is still injured. But the postseason has NOTHING to do with what’s going on with Teixeira! So I’m sorry if I “failed” to report something that has no meaning in this article. Again. This has nothing to do with the postseason. This has to do with the Yankees not having Teixeira available for the next 3 weeks. So don’t question my dedication to what I write because I write all my articles with effort. If I don’t put too much “effort” for you, then stop reading my articles. It’s that simple!
IF TEIZEIRA CAN NOT GO FOR THE POIST SEASON, BUTIS NOT INJURED SERIOUS ENOUGH TO BE ON THE DL
‘
]I AM FAIRLYCERTAIN THE RULE HAS ALWAYS BEEN YOU CAN NOT INSDERT A PLAYER THAT WASNT ON THE 25 MAN ROSTER ON AUGUST 31ST
UNLESS YOU GO TO MLB AND FILE AN APPLICATION FOR A SERIOUS VINJURY REPLACEMENT?
IS THIS THE RULE OR NOT
I HEARD TEIX SAY HE COULD BE OUT FOR 2 YEARS, RIGHT OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH
JIM – Delia’s article wasn’t about the post-season roster so ease up on her. I’ll answer your question though.
To be eligible for the post-season roster, a player must be on the 25-man roster on August 31st OR the Disabled List. Because of this, trades in September are useless for the post-season. So your pool of eligible players is your 25-man roster plus your Disabled List. On Aug 31st, the Yanks had about 9 guys on their DL including ARod, Pettitte & Ivan Nova so their regular pool is these 34 players
HOWEVER, there are several loop-holes in the system that basically allow the Yankees to use ANYONE in their organization on their playoff roster. For example, the rules allow a team to substitute for anyone that is injured at the start of a series. The Yankees had about 9 guys on their Disabled List on August 31st and at least 6 of them definitely won’t be healthy by the start of the playoffs. So technically, the yanks can substitute for guys like Mariano Rivera, Michael Pineda, Cesar Cabral, Brad Meyers, Pedro Feliciano & David Aardsma who are on their disabled list.
To use a situation, if the Yankees want to add Eduardo Nunez to their postseason roster for the 1st series due to his blazing speed/ pinch-running abilities, could they? Well, Nunez wasn’t on the 25-man roster or DL on Aug 31st BUT they could say, well Michael Pineda won’t be healthy so we will take Nunez instead. So as you can see, basically ANYONE in the Yankees organization as of August 31st is eligible for the post-season roster.
Does that answer your question Jim?
it should be about the post season roster, becaujse YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO JUST INSERT PLAYERS WILLY NILLY
Did Yankees clinch a play-off spot yet? No. So don’t plan ahead if the Yankees haven’t even punched their ticket for the play-offs. Again. this is not about the post-season. It’s about Teixeria’s calf. Teixeria should be healed by the end of the season. 10-14 days, that’s still enough time for the end of the season. IF the Yankees make the play-offs, he should be healthy enough to make the roster. So that’s not even an issue. And Teixeira isn’t going to be out for 2 years, that’s obsurd. Derek Jeter is older than Mark Teixeira and only missed 3 weeks with the exact same injury. No one stays out of baseball for 2 years because of a calf injury.
really, yoiu really believe they dont plan ahead?
TELL THAT TO JOSE REYES
If Yankees make it then Teixeira’s going to get on the roster. He played with a tight calf in 2007-2008 and he turned out okay. He wouldn’t mind playing if his calf was tight.
Delia – don’t worry about criticism regarding your Tex news. You’re all good.
Here are some interesting facts that are hard to believe about Ted Williams:
1. In 1941 he bats .406 and DOES’NT win the MVP award !!!
2. In 1942 he wins the Triple Crown (leader in hrs, rbis,BA) and DOESNT win the MVP award
3. In 1947 he wins the Triple Crown again and again DOESN’T win the MVP award.
Talk about bad luck…..
Ouch! That is bad luck. Did he ever win an MVP award?
Yes, he won the MVP twice, and finished second 4 times.
if you look at his stats objectively he was probably the best hitter of all time ( along with the Babe). He missed 3 years in the service during his early 20s prime years.
Delia – Ted Williams benefited from Fenway Park. He was a left handed hitter and would punch little fly balls of the green monster for doubles.
In fact While manynthink Fenway helped RH hitters there have been many LH hitters that benefited more like Ted Williams , Freddie Lynn, Wayne Boggs, Carl Yaz ( who also won the triple crown).
