lol, actually, it is 11 games left in the regular season,…..game 152 through game 162,…
jeter needs 16 hits in those 11 games,……to reach 220 hits, the most he ever had,
jeter does this with contining the hitting streak to the end,
1 game off, 1 three hit game, 4 two hit games, and 5 one hit games = 16 hits
jeter also needs 8 more hits to reach 3300 hits in his carrer
and jeter need at lkeast 1 hit in 6 more games, to reach 2000 games with at least 1 hit in his career.
those are 2 giant milestones
delia- dont take a game away from jeter,…… lol
Jim – Start looking at some new stats. There are millions of stats. Hits don’t tell the whole story. Sure Jeter continued his hitting streak yesterday but that doesn’t mean he had a good game. He went 1 for 7 so his Batting Average and On Base Percentage was .143. I really admire Jeter…he’s a 1st ballot HoF’er and he’s having a tremendous season. This isn’t meant to disparage him…..just to point out to you that “Ratio” stats like BA, OBP, SLG%, OPS, wOBA, RC+, OPS+, HR% are better indicators of performance than strictly “Counting” stats like Hits, RBI, Doubles, HRs, Runs Scored, etc…
You know what I hate, when Kay quotes each players hitting straight when they come up. Who cares if Cano has a 4 game hitting streak or Martin has a six day?
YEAH,, BUT DO NOIT UNDER ESTIMATE JETER PUTTING DOWN THE SACRIFICE THAT GOT MELKY MESA OVER TO 2ND,.. IN THE 14THM.. A LESSER PLAYER MIGHT HAVE BUNTED INTO A DOUBLE PLAY
COME ON MAN,,, STOP IT,.. IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT HITS,…… th emore hits you get th emore games you win, and i can prove it statistically
I’m not underestimating anything. Just pointing out that your viewpoint of Hits being the only stat that matters doesn’t point out the whole story. Just like you said, Jeter’s Sac bunt was a big play in the game…but it didn’t count as a hit. So obviously hits don’t tell the whole story.
RUNS are the name of the game…….scoring them and preventing them. the team that outscores it’s opponent wins. You don’t get a thing for getting more hits than your opponent.
Which player would you rather have?
Player A – 184 Hits in 721 PAs .272 BA/.310 OBP/ .335 SLG/ .645 OPS/ .289 wOBA/ 84 RC+
Player B – 132 Hits in 588 PAs .259 BA/.345 OBP/.369 SLG/.713 OPS/ .330 wOBA/ 103 RC+
Twasp, which player would you rather have?
listen,.. take some time, take a statistrics level college course,….. then go over the last 20 years of mlb,….. and correlate hits to wins for teams,.. do it 5 different ways,.. look at every angle,….. and reverse it to hits against even,
you will come out to see i am right
I have taken several college courses in Statistics. Instead of getting all touchy and defensive, why not take a constructive suggestion to simply broaden the stats you look at. Looking at the sheer quantity of hits a player gets is meaningless when dealing with totally different sample sizes. You have to look at the ratio at which one gets hits and the value of those hits. A single and a Home Run are both hits…….are they both equal? Not even close.
If you’d like to continue with your narrow-minded outlook, then that is fine with me. But when you post dozens and dozens and dozens of posts about the same thing on this website, expect to get some feedback from people.
DO I GIVE YOU SUGGESTIONS?, LOL,….. come on man,….i am not a professional writer ,…… criticizing the way fans look at the game, and enjoy the game, is not legitimate,…
it is a waste of time
That was the smartest thing you have said……responding to your post was……
a waste of time….
He has his head so far up Jeter’s rear that he now suffers brain damage from anal suffocation.
Ha ha funny, ghost, Hankies,…disgusting…..but funny.
A lot of creative name at this site, funny stuff. Jim’s is good, and so is the Free Hankie commenter…..Yanks lose…A-rods ball needed a warmer day. Not an excuse, but what the heck.
Jim, Fish,
If I may…. Jim the analysis you are talking about is a statistical correlation between 2 variables, hits and wins…..and if we did the analysis I would say you probably are right that there is a positive correlation between the two. more hits =more wins
I also think that Fish is correct that if you added other variables like ops and wOBA ….in a multiple correlation statistical analysis …….you would find these other variable correlate even closer to wins. (higher correlation coefficient)
Jim do you know how to do a regression analysis?.
right, but we are talking about 1 variable,.. WITH EVERYTHING ELSE REMAINING THE SAME, NEXT SEASON, HAVING ICHIRO GET 200 HITS VS GARDNER PLAYING AND GETTING 120 HITS,…..
WHICH TEAM IS GETTING MORE WINMS?
Jim, were they both up the same amount of times?
Jim…..yes you are only talking about one variable. Fish1′s point was you should look at other variables that are more relevant to wins. And my point was a multiple regression analysis would give you the BEST predictor variable.
twasp, but when you take 40 years of data, team hits,,. and correlate to wins,, YOU AUTOMATICALLY FACTOR OUT EVERY OTHER VARIABLE THAT CAN OCCURE OVER THE COURSE OF 40 SEASON FOR EVERY MLB TEAM,… AND WHAT YOU GET IS A POSITIVE CORRELATION BETWEEN HITS AND WINS
Yes, Jim…..that is an x/y Correlation analysis…….all other variables are not included. My comment at 3:57 agreed with you that it would be positively correlated.
I’d rather have player B. Because even though he had less hits, he got on base more, and he created more runs (rc+) .
Twasp – Of course you are correct. Player A also had 133 more PAs so he should have more hits.
BTW……
Player A is Ichiro Suzuki 2011
Player B is Brett Gardner 2011
Ha ha very good.
Knowing the player is also important, I would take Ichiro on the Yanks over Gardner any day!
Doug – which player would you rather have ….a or b in Fish’s example?
TWASP…your comment about Bret Gardner, having his eyes moved further apart, got a lot of laughs, from some of the saloons, on Houston St. Funny.
You da man, Patrick.
the other day on the radio broadcast of the game, susan waldman said something like,, you would have though tif Jeter was gfoing to drop off he would have done it in august and sepotember
all due respect,, susan waldman has no idea what she is talking about
here are jeters hits byt month for his career
March/April – 463
May – 539
June – 508
July – 586
August – 648
Sept/Oct — 548
August and September are historicaly Jetres 2 biggest months
Sterling might say you cant beleive everything you read in blogs,, causde you dont know who the poersonis
well I respomnd by saying, yuo can not beleive everytrhing yuo here on the radio from the yankees broadcasters
jeter now has a 17 game hitting streak,,,,, ichiro batting over 500 over last 17 games,…… it is no suprise the yankees are 12-5 over last 17, the 1-2 punch of jeter and ichiro allowing the big bats to relax and dol their jobs
hits, runs, rbi’s,……. thats how you win games,………..ill keep doing my stats my way,.. cause they are ever changing ,……. it can last til i cant do it anymore,……….. you enjoy the game you want to, i’ll enjoy it they way i want to do, ok?
Martin did a nice job with his secondary lead and moving on contact to score from 3rd on Nunez’ grounder. But he should have scored from 1st on Ibanez’ double that the RF booted around in the corner. That seems to be a big weakness of the team’s this year….general baserunning mistakes and many cases of questionable effort/hustle.
When they showed the replay, Martin wasn’t hustling and was halfway between 1st and 2nd watching the ball to see if it would drop. That ball was nowhere close to being caught and he should have been sprinting with his head on the 3B coach.
Yeah….and I wonder if Alfred e.Newman was stopping Martin at 3B
PAUL ONEIL GOT A SPEEDING TICKET
What the hell is Girardi waiting for? Swish is face to face with the ump and Girardi stands in the dugout!!
This HP ump today is absolutely terrible!
NUMBERS AINT THAT HARD TO DO,…..this past wednesday night, i turned a 25 dollar chip, into 1000 dollars, playing blackjack at the tropicana,….. lol…i can see numbers,….. just cause you cant, doesnt mean i cant
I turned 15 cents into 20,000 dollars….so I obviously know much more about baseball stats than you do! lol
I don’t gamble as it is connected to the mafia.
This HP umpire should be fired for that strike zone.
OMG, THE YES ANNOPUNCERS FIRST SAID THE SCORING WAS AN ERROR ON THE 2ND BASEMAN ON THE THROW ON TH EJETER BALL,, THEN THEY JUST SAID THEY CHANGED IT TO A ERROR ON THE FOIRST BASEMAN,….. NOW YES IS SAYING JETER IS 2 FOR 3,.. LOL, ANMD SO IS ESPN,….
CAN THE GUYS ON TV , KEN AND MICHAEL, GET THE CALL RIGHT? GEEZE
no i have no idea how many hits jeter has today, did he rwach on an error or not?
Oh No!!!! – AROD I LMFAO still watching
i wouldn’t be taking about that hp umpire, the so called “balk ” on the a’s pitcher yesterday was BS
