Delia – two issues with lineup
1. Why is Cano as low as 5? What is his record vs Lester?
2. Nunez should be batting second with his speed.
My main question about the lineup was, why was Ichiro hitting last? Is Girardi trying the double lead-off effect with Jeter and Ichiro instead of Jeter and Gardner?
Delia- maybe that’s what Girardi is thinking or he doesn’t think Ichiro will be able to hit a tough lefthander like Lester.
I do like Nunez in the lineup though at DH.
I’d bat Nunez second with his speed , he’s a perfect table setter for the 3/4/5 hitters.
Cano is the hottest hitter in baseball wit a 1.5 OPS in his last 7 games (.577ba) why drop him to 5th? Are his numbers that bad against Lester?
Well Cano lifetime is .12 for 55 (.218) vs. Lester. So maybe that’s why he’s batting 5th,
The binder said to move down the hottest hitter in baseball and replace him with a gimpy strikeout master making his second start in a month. Comedy, pure comedy.
Here guys. ESPN has a chart where you can choose a player, choose a team and it will show you what that hitter is hitting against a specific pitcher.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/6204/robinson-cano
Another stupid lineup by the idiot.
This is as potent a lineup you’ll see from the Yankees in 2012. Maybe you don’t like a certain spot of a hitter in the order..but with Teix back, Ichiro playing everyday, this is probably what Joe will go with in the postseason, and I gotta say I’m pretty happy with it considering how Russell Martin and Andrew Jones were batting 4th and 5th just a few weeks ago. Haha
Girardi is as bad of a manager as there is in all of baseball. That inning ending double play by Teixeira was something you knew would happen at least once tonight while Cano was shifted down.
1) Teixeira is an all or nothing bum, and a gimpy one at that.
2) Cano is the hottest hitter in baseball.
3) Only that crewcutted idiot would have dropped Cano tonight.
Cano would have been an automatic on getting at least one run across the plate in that spot.
is it true theat the yankees are gonna be rained out and play a twi-light double header tomorrow?
No Jim. The Game hasn’t been rained out. Yankees and Red Sox will play. It’s supposed to stop raining by game time.
he got the lineup right but the batting order is a joke. You don’t move Cano down in the order…..ARod isn’t hitting and Teix just came back.
You also have to consider what is going to happen later in the game. How about later in the 6th inning or later when Boston brings in a RH reliever…..do you think Cano (your best hitter) will see a strike with Russel Martin and his .637 OPS vs RHP hitting behind him.
This kind of nonsense has been going on since Girardi got the job. I
Thank you, Delia….for tonight’s line-up card. A very provocative line-up, it is.
Lineup mistake by Girardi has already cost us. Tex double play.
Instead of Cano up there with runners on the corners and one out, we get the strikeout gimp who of course does what we expect him to do. Why in the world would Girardi have moved Cano down tonight?
Hee Haw went to his binder and saw a .218 avg for Cano against Lester. Which of course he should have ignored since Cano is the best hitter on the team , but he overmanaged as usual.
He also forgot that hitting a gimp cleanup will put you in the line of fire for double plays all night long.
That line-up is about as bad as mine, which is;
#1–Jeter, Swisher, Nunez, Cano, A-Rod, Curtis, Tex, Martin, Ichiro
This is what the Yankee fans would like (thinking inside the box).
If i had my way, it would be thinking outside the box;
#2–Jeter, Ichiro, Swisher, Cano, A-Rod, Tex, Martin, Curtis, Nunez, I like speed at both ends with power in the middle.
Or one could go with speed, power, speed and power, like this:
#3–Jeter, Itchiro, Swisher, Cano, A-Rod, Curtis, Nunez, Tex and Martin.
I’ll go with #2.
Oldyankee07- I like your #1 lineup. Nunez 3rd in front of cano.
Fire Girardi now!
He’s the worst manager in all of MLB
For the 2nd time tonight Teixeira comes to the plate with runners on first and third and one out where Cano should have been hitting and for the second time tonight this useless POS hits into a double play. His totally useless POS manager Girardi is doing everything he can to force the Yankees into the wildcard.
Even Michel Kay was saying that very one was questioning the lineup.
Hee Haw loves to over think everything. Then he overmanages. Then it backfires.
Next year. New Mgr wanted.
Don Mattingly
David Cone
Dave Miley
Delia Enriquez
If being manager means I get to talk to Gardy and D-Rob all day then count me in!
You’re in!
Joesph A. Girardi…..what is it with you commenters? On the verge of finishing with the best record in the American League….and your complaining? I don’t get it. Twasp…why don’t you add Soupy Sales, or Ed Koch to that short list. And you, Michael P……did Joe tell Teixeira, to hit into those double plays? Of course, not!….Lets rally behind our manager.
JG knows Tex is a gimp prone to double plays and batted him cleanup over the hottest hitter in baseball. Rally behind? He’s hopeless.
Hello Michael…..gimp prone? What is that? ….a pimp, with a limp? ….Joe knows his guys…Teixeira should be spoken to, in the strongest of terms. Move-it!.. Besides, Teixeira, only makes Cano look better.
It means he is a gimp, prone to double plays. He is now hitting for the third time tonight with two runners on base, when Cano should be up. Lets see how he does here.
Michael P…..I guess he failed? I checked the box score, and Boston is still leading. Sometimes, the fourth time is the charm.
Joe must go! Joe must go! Joe must go!
Twisted Twasp….what is wrong with you? You would let a blue chip manager, like Girardi, slip through the Yankee’s hands? You baffle me, sometimes!…”Joe must go, to the head of the class!”
Robbie Cano had a base hit. If he was hitting before Teixeira…we would possibly have the lead right now. :/
As much as the Press HATED Teddy Ballgame, he hated them back. The year he retired, at the end of the season he just walked out after the game, and that was it. He never talked to them at all.
So his not getting named MVP in ’42 and ’47 is not a big surprise. I was surprised he got in the HoF on the first ballot. Of all the hitters I have ever seen, Ted Williams is the best hitter I ever saw by far!
No one and I mean no one was ever better, at least not since 1944. There are those that have put up big numbers and have passed him in the record books, but adding everything to gather no one person has his numbers.
more hits!!!
Hi, Matthew……hope life is well. Take care.
Tex is killing us!
He’s been killing us since October of 2009. His average since then including postseason at bats is .250. And Joe G should be fired for batting him cleanup tonight.
Why Robinson Cano is not the cleaup hitter, I don’t know. This is a monstrosity of a lineup.
Matthew…I don’t think so. Some guidance, from the bench…and off he goes. Watch.
Delia…Cano… can not be a clean-up hitter forever. Teixeira, will get it done. Give him a chance.
Lester’s out!!! THANK YOU!!!
Delia – after you posted the lineup, who commented here at 4:07pm questioning Cano batting 5th?
I believe that was you my friend.
Joe must go! ™.
Joe Girardi says ” let me take my best hitter Cano, and put my worst hitter behind him. Genius.”
the yankees are blowing their chance
10hits and only one friggin run
When you get 10 hits and score one run….
THE BATTING ORDER IS WRONG!
Alfred e. Newman , I mean, Rob Thomson, should have sent Cano.
This guy Cirioco is a Yankee killer. Booooooooo
Joba needs to cut down on the chalupa grandes…….and maybe he hit 99 mph.
Before I sign off……Good evening Jim22224444 ( Is there a shorter version of that handle?……………ie: jim2x4?)………….Early, early rising tomorrow, good night.
STOP THE PRESSES!!…the lovely Delia, has a new Gravatar!….Rico Suave!..Good night.
old school Joba!!!
97 mph Joba…….gotta love it!
Tampa has one more inning to beat baltimore.
Girardi just messed up the words to America Bless God. Wrong order Joe!
I can’t take this. I really don’t want tomorrow to decide it.
Ugh Swisher is making me nervous out there.
Make that catch next year in the NL
Pressure is on the Yankees now that B’more won.
Just so you know, Gardner gets in the game once someone gets on. It’s that critical.
i’m calling a double down the line.
Base hit for Martin. Out comes Martin. In comes Gardner.
Brett the Jet say it ain’t so.
It’s okay…Breslow looked like if he balked. But of course the umpires don’t like us…besides, I can’t stay mad at Gardy for long. I was mad for 2 seconds…
what happens if ny, bal. tex, aand oak,, all are tied after 162 games for the best record?
I think Yankees vs. Baltimore, Oakland vs. Texas. Then losers of those play the Wildcard game. Then the winners will be the AL East & AL West winner. At least, I think so.
correct
I was right? Wow. Paying attention to John & Suzyn finally payed off.
why pull Nunez back. Prove me wrong Joe!!!! ugh let Nunez hit!
Leave in Nunez!
ummm i mean you sit Nunez and put in Ibanez in that spot. hahahhah
Credit needs to be given where its due there. Great move
it did work. credit is given. I need to be up early let’s end this swish.
TIED GAME!!!!!!!
Ibanez just saved Girardi’s job.
Wow when was the last time A-Rod was intentional walked to win a game.
a pass ball here woudl be nice.
OMG Tex is up next!!!!
if jeter scores is he the hero?
Yes,
No it would be Ibanez who tied the game.
Not gonna look it up but I think tex has double digits LOB in this game.
I did look i was wrong it was 9!!!
almost Matt its 9. Im one that thinks lineups are usually overrated but obviously that call was not the right one. #analysis lol
how can you take Cano who has been hot lately and replace him with a guy who has been out injured. makes no sense #friggin binder
Soriano has been known for being a one inning pitcher. This may not end well.
lets say the yankees tie baltimore and oakland wins the division, and all 3 have the same record,….. by virtue of the extra game , the winner of the yankees-baltimore would have home field?c
cause that winner would have 1 more win than oakland in the regular season , by the half game, right?
francesa and his staff couldnt figure out if the yankees have the tiebreaker against oakland today
I think it would depend what the season series was between the Yankees/A’s or Orioles/A’s. But if Yanks lead by a half game, they would get home field.
Goodness Soriano is going to throw 40 pitches with a must win game tomorrow. Insane
jeter could use a 3rd hit tonight
Cervelli walks for his first AB of the year…hmm…I thought it would have been more dramatic.
Raul Ibanez with an RBI base hit!!!! Yankees win!! Cervelli is the hero for getting on base!!
Great job by Ibanez just to make contact but GOOD for CERVELLI!!!
Cervelli was dumped the last day of ST and not given an AB all year. Way to go Cisco
First time they won a game trailing after 8 innings ALL SEASON!
First Walk -Off Win without AJ Burnett they celebrated………..no pies but goofball Swisher played the AJ role and dumped the Gatorade bucket of Ice Water on Ibanez’ back.
It’s times like these where you miss A.J Burnett being the pie guy.
Good solid job by Phelps…..always keeps the team in the game. Awesome performance by DLowe. Pathetic performance by Tex…..we had 15 hits and Tex stranded 9 runners and had 3 opportunites to bring home a guy from 3rd base with less than 2 outs and failed each time…….ouch!
Good let Texas and Oakland beat themselves up going into the playoffs.
For anyone who doesn’t know, here are the possible scenarios regarding the 1-5 seeds in the AL.
Scenario #1 Yanks win today, Oakland wins today, Baltimore wins today
Yanks are the 1 seed and would play the winner of the O’s-Texas playoff game, which would take place in Baltimore. The Tigers would host the first two games of a best of five against the A’s.
Scenario #2 Yanks win today, Texas wins today, Baltimore wins today
Yanks are the 1 seed and would play the winner of a one game playoff between Texas and Baltimore, which would take place in Baltimore. Tigers host first two games of the best of five against the A’s.
Scenario #3 Yanks win today, Oakland wins today, Baltimore loses today
Yanks are the 1 seed and would play the winner of Texas-Baltimore, which would take place in Texas. Tigers host the first two games against the A’s.
Scenario #4 Yankees win today, Texas wins today, Baltimore loses today.
Yankees are the 1 seed and play the winner of Baltimore-Oakland, which would take place in Oakland. The Tigers host the first two games against the Rangers.
Scenario #5 Yankees lose today, Oakland wins today, Baltimore wins today. Oakland is the 1 seed. Yanks and Orioles play a one game playoff in Baltimore to decide the division. If the Yanks win the playoff game they play the first two games of a best of five in Detroit. Texas and Baltimore would play a one game playoff in Texas. If the Orioles win the one game playoff the Yankees play the Rangers in a one game playoff with the winner playing the first two games in Oakland. The Tigers host the first two games against the Orioles.
Scenario #6 Yankees lose today, Oakland wins today, Baltimore loses today. Oakland is the 1 seed and plays the winner of Texas-Baltimore, which takes place in Texas. Tigers host the first two games against the Yankees.
Scenario #7 Yankees lose today, Texas wins today, Baltimore loses today. Yankees are the 1 seed and play the winner of Oakland-Baltimore, which takes place in Oakland. Tigers host the first two games against the Rangers.
Scenario #8 Yankees lose today. Texas wins today. Baltimore wins today. Yankees are the 1 seed and play the winner of Oakland-Baltimore, which would take place in Baltimore. The Yankees and Orioles play a one game playoff. If the Yankees win, they host the winner of a one game playoff between Baltimore and Oakland, which would take place in Oakland. the Rangers play the first two games in Detroit. If the Orioles win the playoff game, the Rangers are the one seed and play the winner of a one game playoff between the Yankees and the A’s, which would take place in Oakland. Detroit would host the first two games of a best of five with the Orioles.
That’s a lot of scenarios. We’ll have to see how this thing plays out. One things for sure, I wouldnt want to catch Detroit in the best of 5 opening round with their two horses rested…$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
On scenario #8 above, the Yankees are not the one seed. They have to play the O’s in a one game playoff.
To answer the question of who the Yankees and their fans should be rooting for this afternoon in the Texas-Oakland game? The answer is Texas. The reason for that is that if the Rangers win, the Yankees can still get the 1 seed with a loss as long as Baltimore loses also. If the A’s win and the Yankees lose there is no way for the Yankees to get the 1 seed.
We’ll have to see how this plays out. Wont know anything until midnight. May be more baseball tomorrow.
