ALDS Game 4 Lineup: Orioles vs. Yankees
Derek Jeter DH
Ichiro Suzuki LF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Nick Swisher RF
Russell Martin C
Curtis Granderson CF
Jayson Nix SS
RHP Phil Hughes
– Joe Girardi said that Derek Jeter will go through batting practice but right now, Jeter is the DH. It’s either he DH’s or he’s doesn’t play at all.
– Also some sad news, Joe Girardi’s father passed away on Saturday at the age of 81. Girardi will still be with the team tonight to manage the game but if the Yanks advance to the ALCS, he won’t be with the team for their workout on Monday. Our thoughts and prayers go to Joe Girardi and his family.
– This is the game that could define it all. Can the Yanks win it and knock out the Orioles to head to the ALCS or will the Orioles tie it up–again? (Yankees fans are going with the first one).

Granderson has to love that A-Rod is having a rough go at it otherwise he would be getting hell from the press.
Cannot believe Ibanez isn’t in the lineup. I hope Girardi didn’t sit him simply because of the lefty-lefty matchup– that would be really disappointing considering his numbers vs. Saunders.
Girardi is crazy for not playing Ibanez. Unreal!! The guy has the performance he had last night to save the season and has bombed Saunders his whole career.
He could have played Ibanez over any of granderson, Tex or Swisher. IMO, all 3 of those guys could have been sat tonight but I would have played granderson because you don’t want to have a weak defensive OF with Hughes on the mound. Tex has hit OK but more importantly he plays great defense too. Swisher isn’t bringing much to the table lately and Ibanez should have played over him. Poor decision by Joe.
I kinda wish Jeter would get pulled tonight and Ibanez take his place. I love the way he’s swinging the bat right now but with Hughes on the Mound it’s tough to have him in the OF. He’s probably not much of a downgrade over Swisher so you could argue the uptick in offense is worth the tradeoff.
Jimmy – Yeah, Ibanez over Swish is the way to go. Unless Jeter is really bad, they need his bat in there. he’s been their best hitter in the series so far and has been their best hitter all year long vs LHP. In fact, he’s one of the games best hitters vs lefties period.
I think Joe looks too much at his opponent and what they do well instead of what his own guys do well. Granted, Joe Saunders has a huge platoon split and has owned lefties this year. But Ibanez is red-hot, Homered off a tough LHP last night and has great career #s off Saunders.
Saunders lives and dies with his sinking Fastball. Like Tom Glavine used to, Saunders will keep pumping that pitch low and away from RH hitters. if they try to pull him they will see a lot of groundballs to SS and 3B. If they go the other way, we will see some HRs into the short porch in RF.
Against RH hitters, he’s Sinker, Curve & Change and vs LH hitters he’s Sinker & Curve. I really hope the Yanks hit him well and win so I don’t have to lament that Ibanez isn’t playing tonight.
Phil is Irish isn’t he? He isn’t, well he better hope he has the luck of the Irish because, sooner or later, those walks will kill him! We need Cano and A-Rod to get some hits right now!
Granderson, and fans bit-h about A-Rod. He is my 4th Zombie but, he is #1 in being replaced NOW. Last night they set A-Rod now is the time to set Granderson and bring in Brett.
I think i heard on the radio this morning that Gradnerson is batting 0.68 this series just pathetic! Put in Brett!
Sad, but I think the big non move was not batting for Alex in the 7th. If you were prepared to do it late in the game you should’ve been ready to do it earlier. He was not going to hit O’day. He K’d in he previous PA so that was the move. In typical Girardi fashion he failed………
I still dislike the roster. If Gardner can’t play a full game then why is he on the team over Dickerson? At least we know the later can play the entire game and could be an alternative to Granderson.
I never would have thought the pitching would be this good and be tied 2-2.
Gardner should have been pinch hitting for Granderson yesterday. I’m positive that Brett can’t do any worse than what Granderson is doing.
You are right but they just can’t be creative or proactive enough to do something like that.
what manager did that back in the day? you remember?
Matt it’s not about what someone else did or does but what our guy does. Girardi failed the team again.
Recently Bochy did make a bunch of interesting moves and decisions to win in 2010.
So, do my fellow colleagues here still want to argue with me about the Granderson trade? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Trading Coke, Kennedy, and Ajax for Granderson was the worst deal since the Indians sold Manhattan for 24 bucks. Oh, and I’m thinking Montero would have been a nice guy to have around in this series. Instead we have that disgusting Pineda, who is probably chasing down a big stack of pancakes with some Budweiser right now.
Cashman hasn’t won a trade since he got Swisher for Betemit and quite frankly that trade has hurt us in the postseason badly.
Mike not me. Ajax is one of the top 5 players under 25 in the game today, huge mistke trading him .
Yeah, and we sure didn’t need Ian Kennedy in his “cheap years” either huh? Nope, instead we’ll give Kuroda another 12 million to pitch next year. Beane plays moneyball, Cashman plays “monopoly money ball”
The problem with that trade is not what Granderson is as we knew when he came here that he’s a flawed player. He has value and a role on this team. The problem is we traded away 17 years of service time for 3 years and an option. 3 players gone an only 1 returned is never the right way to go when making trades.
That trade proves the Yankees need to have patience with then next wave of young outfielders.
Good answer, Hank
Not me….both of those deals hurt now and will hurt us even more in the coming years when we’ll need young, inexpensive players to stay under Hal’s new budget. The plan was to go with young cheap pitching but with Pineda & Banuelos under the knife and Betances lost, I don’t think that plan will fly. Nova and Phelps have promise but not as top of the rotation guys. But that’s a discussion for another day.
Granderson .063
A-Rod .125
Swisher .133
Cano .111
Just Pathetic.
I know Cano is not doing much but he did move the runners up in the 7th.
And people say BA is not a meaningful stat…………..
How about the “slugger” Teixeira? He now has 121 postseason at bats as a Yankee. 23-121 with 13 RBI’s and THREE home runs. For 90 million so far, wow, just wow.
Teixeira was not the problem last night. 1 for 3 with 3 walks is fine an overall in the series he’s hitting .333.
You can call out Tex for past poor performances but not in this series.
