I’m not sure why everyone is surprised that the Yankees aren’t doing anything in the offseason so far. It is obvious that the only places to upgrade the lineup are at catcher and one outfield spot. There are no big name catchers available and they wouldn’t spend big bucks on one if they did, because Romine and Sanchez are on the way.
What the Yankees need is an outfielder with a bat!! Trading for Upton makes a lot of sense but they really don’t have the excess pieces required to acquire him and not weaken what they have.
It really comes down to the fact that the only guy out there who would make a big impact on this team and makes sense to sign is Hamilton, and management is obsessed with getting payroll down.
Sure, there will be some bargain bin signings and maybe even a trade or two, but they won’t be signings or trades that will be the kind to make Yankee fans turn cartwheels.
Apparently the Yankees will trot out the same sort of lineup they had last year with the exception of Gardner returning to the outfield.
I don’t like it, not one bit.
