Morning Bits: Ichiro, Martin
Good morning everyone. Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break and of course the great deals of Black Friday. Let’s enjoy this wonderful Sunday before we have to head back to school and work tomorrow by starting off with some Yankees news. Here are your morning links!
– According to ESPN New York, Ichiro Suzuki is willing to wait for the Yankees to offer him a contract. According to his agent, Ichiro would like to appear in Pinstripes for the 2013 season. With no right fielder and not a lot of options yet, the Yankees could always re-sign Ichiro…or they could re-sign Swisher. Take your pick.
– In other news, Russell Martin wants to eventually get rid of the catchers mask–and play shortstop for the World Baseball Classic. If Martin’s shortstop dreams do come true, that will be great to watch. Considering the World Baseball Classic won’t have Derek Jeter this year, I say why not?

Thank you for the information, Jedua.

As for itchy resigning, I want Gordon over itchy, if I have to make a choice.

Great stats Jim ….my favorite Yankee is Cano….I think he is the best…but after reading all your numbers …I think Jeter is the best ever.hitting- wise.
what did you take out of the list that makes jeter lok good? I am the list cause i thought it would be intresting to see because jeter will be turning 39 on june 26th. I am working on re-organizing the list in order of number odf carrer hits on the players’ 39th birthday,……
(just take the plyers lifetimehits and subtract the amount from the list above)
here is the work in progress so far
number of career hits on the player’s 39th birthday
cobb ————3821
aaron ———–3509
rose ———— 3375
jeter————–3304 (78 yankess games in hand through his 39th birthday coming up)

Fatboy Fabian Slim…..how was your Thanksgiving? Mine was quiet.. How much did you eat? What was the main course? How old are you? Do your parents live together? You look like you may be a dessert, kind of guy.
opps, my vizqauel numbers are wrong,, ut oh,…. mistakes, mistakes,.. lol,… god i dont want to have to recheck every number,….
vizquel was 552 after 39th birthday,, i have no idea how i got 707
MR. JIMMY..222244444….its been awhile. How are you? You seem to be mired in stats. Do you think anyone reads them? Ken?…he may read them, but only after his wife throws water on him, for chasing her around the house.
unles i do the stats then i wont know them,.. so i have to do them,…… and i save them on my hard drive, so i have them,…. i enjoy knowing certain things,….
anyone who wants to know things should look at the things htey want to know for themselves,.. so i people shpuld not read what i wroite,, they should do it for themselves…….
According to my calculations,…… if Derek Jeter can get 72 hits through June 26th, 78 yankees games are sceduled,…… Jeter will have the 3rd highest total of hits on his 39th birthday,……. 2nd only to ty cobb and hank arron.
that would put jeter into 8th place on the all time hits list as well.
assuming jeter, arod, and ichiro get hits after their 39th bithday,…… that would put 72% of the top 100 hits leaders having had hits after their 39th birthday
foir jeter to have the 3rd most hits among everyone at age 39 for everyone,… tells me that jeter is one of the toip hitters of all time
What is also extremely impressive in Hank AAron,…… most people see him as a home run hitter,.. but he could flat out hit too,……. he is currently 3rd all time in hits,.. and as described above,…. had the 2nd most hits all time, comparing to how many hits everyone had on their 39th birthday,….. and it isnt even close,…….. it is not like he held on playing to accum, late the hits,.. he already had them,……
that is part of the reason i am so distraught about what players like barry bonds and arod did,……. they tried to wreck hank arrons legacy in stats, by using ped’s.
and by telling from the resistance even on yfu blog over my stance,.. they are sucessful in wrecking hank arron’s lifetime in baseball.
i understand people like babe ruth, ted williams, willie mays, mickey mantle, …….
but it is fair to insert hank aaron into the arguement as the greatest among them
having barry bonds and arod, and others, steal aaron’s thunder in history, because they used ped’s is sickening to me
if barry bonds never used steroids and/or hgh,….. and his numbers were quite a bit lower,.. he woulda made the hof anyway,…… and then we could have a legit arguement he is the greatest, based on the fact he faced the better pitchibng in his career,
but once he used all the peds folr years,…… the argument becomes sickening to do
something that is not enjoyable,.. but also impossible to do anyway,…
these steroirds/hgh guys definitivlet]\y wrecked the historical aspect of the enjoyment of the game,……… which is something thats been entrechned in baseball forever.
yesterday, flipping around tv sports coiverage, i saw a wide reciever at a podium saying he just got his 6th consecutive 1000 yard season,…….
stats do mean something to players in sports,….. aside from winning and losing,…… to the point they are aware of it
even when derek jeter was going for 3000, all the media thought it was weighing on him,…and i believe jeter suggested, for the first time, he was aware of his stats.
especially in baseball,…… because , being 46 years old ,..i know baseball was marketed to me as stats as a kid greowing up,…… on the back of every baseball card was the players stats
the game was marketed as individual stats,……who leads in homeruns, etc,…
even mlb buys into it,.. giving out MVP awards, etc….
this being the absolute 100% truth, the 100% case of the stanture on baseball,…..
the steroid/hgh players had to have been aware, at least on some level,… that stats meant everything
and they used to pad their stats,…… they also got more money because of it,.. and also pulled up noin-users going to arbitration,….where arbitrators based their salaries against the very high salaries of users,.. and everyones pay went up
the cost being passed onto the american consumer, one way or another, whether they watch baseball or not
it is impossible to turn the clock back and change what happened
what i wsould like to see , which is not happening, is more awareness among fans, and more outrage among fans,…. that ultimatley pay for the game,…. against the steroid.hgh guys, so history does not repeat itself
but that is not happening,….. melkey canrera just used testosterone or something, and was killing the ball all around the park,…. leading the majors in hitrs before he got busted this season,….
and instead of fans forcing the issue with outrage,.. mel;key has gotten a brand spanking new contract, setting him up with life changing money,….. money that id managed right, would allow him to live worry free the rest of this life
while most of the fans that support baseball, directly or indirectly,.. as we are talking about most people in the united states,….. do not have life changing money,.. and use baseball as a diversion from their problems, …… as an enjopyment,….and that enjoyment includes the STATS.
IF THE STATS ARE MESSED UP CAUSE OF PED’S, LIKE HGH, JUICE, STEROIDS, TERSTROSTERONE,…. THEN THE ENJOYMENT TO THE FAN GOES AWAY
it is social- cultural thing,….
but it also is an economic thing
and it is about playing fairly,.. have the outcome of games, standings, and champiobships, being determined fairly,.. so we can enjoy our baseball heroes, knowing they suceeded fairly
pete rose did not effect the game in this way at all,…….. pete rose did nothing to make his teams lose as a player of manager ever,.. not once, ever,….. you play to win, ytou manage to win,.. you it fairly,.. and thats that
rose betting on the reds to win,…. as a manager,.. did not affect the outcome of the games,….because you manage to win the game anyway,…
but using steroids and hgh did UN-FAIRLY affect wins and losses throughout many seasons.
gambling on sports is used as a joke, as a reality, as something so common , in media,… that is becomes part of the social-cultural aspect
radio hosts like craig carton on wfan/msg, have talked about sports betting in such a non-fiormal manner, like its a regular occurance.
thats the devuils advocate argument,… but the reality is that sports betting outside of los vegas, and you have to physicaly be in vegas to ;place a bet,….. is run by ORGANIZED CRIME,…..
EVERYTHING FROIM TAX EVASION TO MURDER
however, sports bettingh is not baseballs problem,, this is law enforcement problem,…..
steroids and hgh testosterone use in basweball is baseballs problem,, and something fans can do something about by expressing outrage olver it,….. big time,…… millions of fans, 10′s of millions of fans, can take a stand and affect change,….
i want to see lefetime ban for a first– untimatley proven offense
pete rose in my opinion, should be not only in the hall of fame today, but managing the reds right now
players like arod should be suspended for life
we dont know how many losses the giantys would have had , had melkey not used this season,, and hit weak grounders into a double play instead of a double or homer, leading the majors in hits,…..
we can assume they would have had a ton more losses if he had not been using,…. ift affects even the flow of the lineup,.. giving more guys chances,… raising the percentages for a win, on a game to game basis
i want to see lifetime suspensions for first offenses
lets us say the year is 2002,…. and the giants are at shea stadium playing the mets,… metys up by 2, top of the 9th, bonds comes up and hit a 3 run hommer,.. that without hgh, would have been the 3rd out warning track shot,….
wins-losses were affected
for many many years
IT IS A DISGRACE, IT IS HURTFUL TO THE FANS, IT IS SICKENING,.. IT IS WRONG, IT IS SHAMEFUL, IT IS HIDEOUS,. IT IS EVIL, IT IS GREEDY, ….
IT IS ABSOLUTLEY 100% WRONG FOR ANY ATHLETE IN COMPETITION TO BE USING PED’S, AMATURE OR PRO
CAUSE THE OUTCOMES ARE NOT FAIR
THATS WHY CYCLCLING JUST STRIIPED ARMSTRONG OF 7 OR 8 TOUR DE FRANCE WINS
MR. JIMMY22244…..have just read all your posts of today. Some were very deep. You are a unique man….smart. And, very convincing. I MUST NOW..agree with you, that A-Rod should be electrocuted.
.no, patrtick,…… all i want is a lifetime suspension for any player that uses the various formsd of peds, on a first offense, .. if it can be proven,…..
jimmy….if proven, AND enforced with that lifetime ban……it will work. It has to be for all, or it will not work. You did use the term …..electrocution?
Fatboy Slim….come on up, son. Look what I have for you!

COME ON, YFU bloggers!……….where are you? The up, and coming blog site?…who said that…Ballpark? ……..Sorry Ballpark, but there is more life in a morgue…And because, it is Nov. 26th. you all go ground hog? WINTER MEETINGS, just around the corner!….so lets get this going!
I had more life from characters, at a previous site.
You take away Jim222444, and you guys are circling the drain…….flat lining.
I feel like every time I log on there’s already a 50 comment thread about a certain topic, and I have no dog in that fight…..hope you’re well Patrick. Winter meetings will definitely get me re-energized into writing more and commenting more. Sometimes you need a bit of a mental break from overwhelming yourself with baseball.
Brian it is very difficult to find energy when management obviously couldn’t care less about the direction of the team. The “exciting” news today is that three antiques are coming back for 2013. Two greats and a good one, but at their age you simply can’t count on a full season of production from any of the three. The only good news I see is that Russell Martin is visiting other cities/teams. We can only hope that he decides to play for one of them.
Swisher is talking with the Red Sox? Good for him, so long as he’s not a Yankee next year I’m good with that. Swisher won’t age like fine wine, that’s for damn sure.
I guess the “big moves” this offseason will be to slide someone in at catcher if Martin salis away. With Ichiro returning you now have an outfield set, with Granderson and Gardner at the other two slots.
Yankee management’s intention right now appears to be that they are fine with fielding a “playoff contender” with winning it all not being any sort of priority.
To those who will chime in about winning the AL East this past season, I need to remind you that a totally fluky 36-13 run from late May to mid July was the only time this season that the Yankees played well. Including the playoffs, this was a team who played its games this past season outside of that hot run in 62-60 and that’s what they looked like most of the season, a .500 team.
They do realize we have to field a frekin team in 2014 right? We’re going to have to replace 3 SP’s, 2 OF’s, a DH, and a closer next offseason. SMH
Matt, 2014, rotation, CC,Haren,Pineda,Nova, and Phelps, outfield Gardner,Heathcott, and Williams, DH A-Rod and company.
Doug you are taking a big leap to assume Heathcott Williams Pineda and Nova will be able to fill those holes. Plenty can happen between now and then.
Matt, that’s what everyone does on these sites, I am sure Pineda and Nova can fill those spots if healthy. I am hoping Heathcott continues to progress knowing he will be able to make the team, he looked good in the AFL agains’t some good prospects. As for Williams he’s one of the top prospects in the system. That being said, I would trade Hughes for Span, Gordon, Headley, or another good outfielder this year, and sign Haren.
You forgot a SS. If Jeter wants to keep playing I believe he’s a DH/utility outfielder and infielder after next season. The way I see it we may need to replace THREE OF’s, a SS, and 3 SP’s after next season.
Management obviously doesn’t care about winning and I can’t tell you how much this disturbs me. The Yankees generate insane amounts of revenue every year and are worth more than any other team out there in all of sports.
What makes that disturbing to me is that its not like the current management has anything invested in this team. Their dad paid 10 million dollars for it back in the early 70′s.
They’re acting like luxury tax would cripple them financially or that they have to be very prudent to get money back on an investment.
This all makes so little sense to me that I really don’t understand what they are thinking, I don’t even have a guess.
Yeah, it’s unbelievable how exciting it is to us Yankee fans that Andy and Mo are coming back. I love them dearly as players, but overall you can’t expect them to produce like they have in the past. They’ve both defied their age countless of times, but at some point life catches up with everyone. I’m confident both will be able to be above-average Major League pitchers again, but at the same time like Matt B said they’ll be gone next year and what the heck will Cashman do replenish this team. Another 95-win, first round exit for the team and my head will explode.
john….here is your first shot at leadership. I have a very early wake-up. I pass it to you. If you see this, stir the pot. Don’t be afraid if you may stumble, get up, and press on.
No thanks on the leadership–that takes on responsibility.
I want the Yankees to win—
we/They need to plan for this. we need X number of wins to make the postseason.
Equates out to runs scored, defensive and pitching.
I am told WAR is a good way to guess how many wins can be gotten?
Wish i had Jim2244 ability and patience to look all that junk up—-gonna try and report back.
Jim, if you want all the players that took Peds to get a lifetime suspension then you should watch high school baseball.
why?? most opf the players that used hgh and steroids are long retired,…. like lenny dykstra,.. you lnow,….i did not say it,, but yeah,, ban them all for life,….
but i said we cant go backwads,, you you read what i wrote
I WANT ANYONE CAUGHT NIW,, IN ANY WQAY,, INCLUDING IF YOU JUST ADMIT IT,.. TO HAVE LIFETIME SUSPENSIONS,…
Agreed. Especially now that you know every player juicing thinks of the consequences as nothing, and that they’ll likely get away with it anyway. “So I miss 50 games, at least I get to enjoy the spotlight!”
Life-time bans are a must for anyone taking an illegal substance.
Jim, Ruiz just got busted today. Players will just find another way, the money is just too big. Maybe they will be like the football players and take Aderol, for ADHD. I still don’t think they test for HGH.
