As an old coach I try and balance my line-up with offensive and defensive players that can be successful, add to that resting players for the long haul, and past performance. Wells was the secret weapon late for the team yesterday, while Nix is trying to battle to keep his playing time. Girardi seems to know what buttons to push with this team so I wouldn’t question his line-up, he has more information than we do.

Let’s not forget the Yanks are first in the AL in pitching for the first time in years. This plus good defense will keep you in most games. The young pitchers have done well picking up injured pitchers so far this season. Pitchers like Phelps, Nuno, Clairbourne, and Warren need to be commended.

fishjam, this is the kind of team that all Yankee fans will rally around. Cashman has done a good job upgrading this team incrementally, Wells has finally found a place where he can silence the boo’s, I’m happy for him his old contract was an albatross around his neck. He looks to be on a mission this year. I can’t say enough about Adams, now we know why he was in the trade for Cliff Lee.

Tremendous team victory. Great comeback with a lot of clutch hitting. Travis Hafner is finding his stroke again and David Adams is making big contributions on offense and defense.

fishjam, Wells will come in the game late agains’t the lefties, most of their at bats were along time ago. Freddy is not this same pitcher right now. I like the idea of saving Wells to use either for Hafner or Ichiro late. This is a solid defensive line-up also.

I’d like to see Wells in the lineup and use both Wells and Adams somewhere in the first 6 batters to break up the lefties a bit. ESPECIALLY since Wells is 7 for 16 wcareer vs Garcia while granderson is a wretched 6 for 35 with 12 ks and 0 HRs. Hafner has the most success vs Sweaty Freddy going 15 for 33 with 4 HRs.

I would not put out a line-up like that, what are you going to do when they bring in their lefties? Bring in a 3rd place replacement? That is why Joe gets the big bucks!
I must say, Cash and mainly Joe, have been working hard and it has shown in the win colume. Some of these guys are not going to have another chance to win a WS! The younger guys are fighting for their jobs next year…and doing just fine.
I think anyone 2nd guessing Joe right now, doesn’t understand how hard it is to blend kids and old (last chance) guys to play as needed to win,

This looks to be one of the best line-ups overall that the Yanks have put on the field this year.
